Mohammed Abdikhader Firdhiye (mohammedaosman) Lame comparison to Pulp Fiction which is hardly hardboiled PI tradition of Hammett, Chinatown.

Funny enough i asked the owner of my local comic shop if this was in print at the moment. Ever since i saw that cool pic, heard about at the GNs history.

Dominick (dominickgrace) | 44 comments A new edition was announced (I forget the publisher; Dark Horse, maybe?) and even listed on Amazon, but it seems to have diea aborning, as the listing has long since vanished again.

Tony | 5 comments The first chapter of the remastered version was printed in Dark Horse Presents #3. It was re-written, re-coloured and in some panels re-drawn by Steranko. The complete graphic novel has not yet been re-published. You can see most of the remastered pages here:

Mohammed Abdikhader Firdhiye (mohammedaosman) The digital coloring makes it look worse. The original GN is black and white?

Yes, it is. "

It was originally published in the U.S. in 1976 in digest size on cheap paper in color. Steranko designed the book based on the digest size and to be in color. A few months later, the publisher printed it as a trade paperback in color. Although the paper was better, the book was not designed to be seen at that size. A few years later the French edition appeared. This was printed on good quality paper, slightly larger than the digest size and in black and white. The color was applied by Steranko in the new chapter 1 that appeared in Dark Horse Presents #3. I believe it was Steranko's idea to reprint in color, not the publishers.

Mohammed Abdikhader Firdhiye (mohammedaosman) I hope i can find it in black and white in english, it looks much better in black and white.

Some art look better without color in comics like this like Torpedo,Sin City.

There is no edition that fits that description. All the art was printed in black and white (without the text) at the back of Steranko:Arte Noir. That is where we got the black and white art for the feature we did on Red Tide on The Drawings of Steranko website. You can see it here:

Mohammed Abdikhader Firdhiye (mohammedaosman) That looks good, the original coloring makes the new digital one look terrible.

Adam | 126 comments Thanks for the scans from the MMA forum, Tony. I have heard good things about this, but actually reading it was disappointing.

It's not a graphic novel, it's a short novel with a lot of pictures. The art is evocative, but it's not enough to make up for what I consider really bad writing and dialogue.

Tony | 5 comments It was not designed for the trade paperback edition, but for the digest edition, and it is only by reading the digest edition, will you feel what Steranko was aiming at. It definitely wasn't designed to be read off a screen on the internet. The digest edition is readily avaible on eBay. Search for Fiction Illustrated #3.

Adam | 126 comments I'd love to give it a second chance. I know how important context and presentation are. Reading things as scans on the internet does not always create an ideal experience.
