I just finished this book as well, and I'm definitely searching for answers. I'm thinking that I may need re-read this book because there is so much symbolism taking place. Please let me know when this group gets started.
Great. I see that you left a 5-star for it too. The part that has stuck with me is when Douglas talks about falling from the tree. I've read the book about four/five times now and find something new each time. The tree part is something I haven't grasped yet, and I'll admit I cried at it once. It's so sad. Here's what I thought was interesting that I just noticed in my last read: The guy selling the parrot shows up twice in the book saying "A nickel for the troubles." At the beginning, Douglas paid with a dime as though he were paying for the second occurrence in advance. This book blows my mind with how everything is not neat and tidy, but it is. I think I'm close to figuring out what the nickel is all about but not quite there. Did you? I have so many questions and am excited that you might have some answers.
Dave Newell and I just released the audiobook of Red Lory. With his help--and his insight into what was going on--this edition may actually clear some things up for you. I agree it's a great book for a book club, and of course I'm extremely excited to see the film that's Dave's working on as well!
Yes Dave has been a great help to me. I'm a member of his Red Lory group and it has helped me understand the book more. I'm quite excited that he got a book deal. I think it's well deserved.

I can't say enough about it just that it's a solid, quick read that requires to be read several times and discussed thoroughly. It's book club material.
