Chapter 52: The Albatross

Ooh... Even eerier. Fabulous voice the reader has. Isn't an albatross a sign of bad luck to a mariner? Strange that a ship would be so named, unless it was a ghost ship, or something. No voice reached the Pequod from that ship either... Very spooky
I am reading their indifference in two ways: one, wearied and seasoned sailors confronting a fresh batch, rested and eager (so annoying!); a waeried and seasoned group from Ahab's post, encountering his latest batch of suckers and not wanting to engage much with them, because they know of the captain's madness. How long prior was Ahab's injury? How long had he been pursuing this whale? How many folks knew of his quest? Is this an old tale back in Nantucket, that Ahab is obsessed? It would certainly seem so with Elijah's foreboding earlier. Is this a doomed ship and therefore, others refuse to engage with her and her inhabitants, suckers they be? I think that is a theme of humanity: don't engage with, or least be wary, of a doomed venture
