I really liked Perks. The book is one of my all time favorites! I was EXTREMELY hesitant to see the film. I didn't see it for the longest time. i recently watched it. It was actually really well done! I was happy the characters were played so well. I was meh about Emma playing Sam, but in the end, she grew on me and I ended up liking her, but I think another actress could of done her justice, like Anna Kendrick or something like that. Buuuut over all I was satisfied :)

I have to say, though, I was slightly disappointed by the film. I was also very hesitant to see it. It surely was well produced and the cast was very good. Emma Watson is my biggest girl crush and I did like her on this film better than in any other she's done and then Ezra Miller was absolutely fantastic, but to me, the film as a whole felt like moving too fast, somehow. Anyway, I'd love to hear your review! :)

I think when seeing a book set out visually- it will always be a disappointment, even more so if we loved the book. That is why I kind of have to watch it with a open mind. There is no way to accurately portray a book into film/media. There is just no way. So in that sense, I did think the movie went well. Yes they left out things that were important, but really it is up to the director and his reading of it :) I agree on Miller. He was ABSOLUTELY perfect for the role.

To me he could be the new Johnny Depp!!
Oh and by the way I was very happy to see that you have this challenge! I am new here, but when I read Perks I decided to read the books asigned as well! Yet let me say this; in my opinion, the order in which the teacher assigns the books is important. I am not sure how, but I think it is and even thought I read The catcher in the Rye I have decided to follow the order so now I will read to Kill a Mockingbird... Just consider it, it might help your reading, I don't know!
Thank you Kathrina! I am glad you enjoy the challenge!
And yes! I agree! I plan on figuring out exactly what is important and see how the books string together. Stephen Chbosky is a smart smart man and I know he didnt just randomly pick them!

"he didnt just randomly pick them!" this exactly my point! That's why I want to read them in the correct order!
I'd love to join this, found myself wishing I'd read the books when I was reading perks. I've only read the great gatsby so far
Then this challenge will be great for you Zita! Perks is one of my all time favorites! And a lot of these other books are great GREAT ones that can mesh with the Classics challenge & Books to Film too! Just looking out for ya ;)
Anyone read or reading the fountainhead yet? I'm just over halfway through, I'm enjoying it and I really like the writing style but it's a bit of an epic book! I'm a fast reader but this is taking up a lot of time!

Hey Rachel. I know you switched this challenge for a yearly thing but not sure it lends itself well for a 1-year challenge compared to a 1-shot deal:- these books we would read once usually, less a few exceptions
- restarting the challenge in the following year would simply make us mark the books from the previous year as already read making this challenge a 1-shot deal
I believe the essence of this challenge is complete in itself unlike the Hoarders or the Read the Alphabet challenges. My 0.02c. :-)
I'm new and I really love this challenge! It's how I found the group :) Read 3 so far...The Fountainhead
Hamlet
Naked Lunch
