11/14: "Superman and Me"

One example that proves my point is in the article Alexie says that a smart Indian is a dangerous person and widely feared. Superman was feared by vilians just like how Alexie was by his classmates.
Another example, is that Alexie refused to fail. He was smart, arrogant and lucky. Superman had to be those as well to become a superhero.
My last example is that Alexie is a writer and visits schools to encourage kids and as he says trying to save lives. Superman was protective and saved people from vilians.

Sherman Alexia once wrote a very powerful and touching easy once about his life and what is was like growing up. The title of this piece is “Superman and I.” I feel although this piece was named what is for the following reasons. One reason I feel it was named this because. Superman has one weakness and it is kryptonite and that is the only thing that can stop him. This is in reference with Sherman because he is doing everything he can in life to succeed and there are only a few things holding him back in life.
Another reason why it may be called “Superman and Me.” Is known one knows who superman is unless he is in costume. He has to been seen to be reveled. Just like Sherman when he was younger knows one could believe the amount of knowledge he retained unless he reveled his true colors.

Sherman Alexie is a wonderful author writing many stories about his life and one of his short stories is named, "Superman and Me." Every author names a story for a reason and I think Alexie named his story about Superman because of the things he does. Alexie explains in the story that he was the chosen special one and soon became a famous writer. Arnold in the story was different from other kids in his reservation, he was smarter and more hopeful. He read tons of hard books. When he was small at the age of 3, he read the Superman comic books. As he grew up, he went through tons of pain. Still, he suffered through it and made it to be a famous writer and also trying to change his reservation kids to be smarter like him. Similar to Superman, Arnold and him also each fight through the evil and became heroes to help others. Arnold had to read more books to be the hero of being a famous writer and helping others at the reservation. Superman also did the same, but helped a town by keeping evil away. Alexie titled the piece "Superman and Me" because he was very similar to Superman.

Superman and Me
In Sherman Alexie, “Superman and Me.” The author writes about how reading Superman comic book will turn him into an amazing reader. He though about paragraphs and how the groups of words had meaning. He learned to read to read faster then all of Indian classmates. This gave him the “Super Power” to be better then all of the others. He never gave up on expanding his knowledge despite the fact he lived on a Native American reservation. Superman was able to brake down doors and take risks in life. Sherman had to brake down stereotypes in life in order to succeed as well. This took a lot of strength and power to do what he did. Superman had to fight the villains and Sherman had to fight against the odds and the negative in his life.
Now I understand why the story is called “Superman and Me.” It called this because both Superman and Sherman had to fight to succeed they both had to have resilient will power to beat the odds and come out on top. They both had to defeat their own villains.

Why does Alexie title his piece “Superman and Me”? Consider in what ways he is like Superman. While this does not need to be in formal reading response structure, I would like a MINIMUM of two examples from the essay that prove your ideas.
