The reason everything got so bad for Zeitoun and the rest of New Orleans was the government. Some people couldn't put aside politics in order to help people and others didn't know who was in charge. Another problem was the Post-9/11 obsession with security from terrorism. FEMA shouldn't be looking for terrorists. If all of those oppressive laws hadn't been passed Zeitoun never would have been indefinitely detained without a trial.
