    January Nomination time!

Oops! I accidentally sent a message out with only the subject line. Can't send another 'til tomorrow, so please excuse the goof. I'll send another tomorrow.

I just read Phoenix Rising and it was good. It's the first book I've read by Ballantine. I had another in mind, but I'll nominate this one.

Classic fantasy that I am planning on rereading soon. I originally read this a long time ago and would love to revisit this world as an adult.

Does Lost Souls by Poppy Z Brite still fall within the fantasy genre? It's an interesting vampire-before-it-got-ridiculous book, New Orleans Mardi Gras atmosphere...Lost Souls
edit: at least that's what i remember, it's been 15 years...
I'll second Dragons of Autumn Twilight since it's on my to-read list anyway, and I'll nominate Biting the Sun.

Could I nominate The Legend of Eli Monpress? Rachel Aaron does a great job of creating strong characters. And it has a very unique magic elements.

      Titus Groan

I've been wanting to read the Gormenghast Novels for years, so what a perfect way to kick off my New Year's resolution :)
Like Kyle and Joseph I'll nominate Titus Groan. The Gormenghast Novels waiting for me on my shelf:-).

The Silmarillion As the hobbit is coming out.The other one I was going to suggest was done already:)
I wouldn't mind re-reading Thomas Covenant - I was a teen when I first read it [many many many years ago!] I'll second that!I'd like to second Titus Groan as well because it looks bizarre and fascinating!
Hmmmm to nominate something - from my to read list: Neil Gaiman's Stardust
Alexandra wrote: The SilmarillionAs the hobbit is coming out.The other one I was going to suggest was done already:)"
I will second that.The Silmarillion
Sandra aka Sleo wrote: "Um, I'd appreciate it if people would READ THE RULES!"It always surprises me when readers of all people, don't read guidelines.
I'd rather take a beating, with a cat-o-nine tales, and have lemon juice poured over the wounds...than even go near a reread of Thomas Covenant. But that's just me...

I'd third The Silmarillion
Michelle wrote: "Could I nominate The Legend of Eli Monpress? Rachel Aaron does a great job of creating strong characters. And it has a very unique magic elements."The Legend of Eli Monpress is an omnibus, are you nominating the first three books or just the first which is The Spirit Thief?

I am with you Mike! nuh-uh ( no one linked it anyway so we are probably safe)
Thomas wrote: "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, The Unbeliever. An epic series."I'll second it because unlike most people I love the series.
The Brides of Rollrock Island - which is also published as "Sea Hearts" in some places. It's very different from the normal epicy fantasy stuff - very small scale, low-magic, character-based. Stunningly beautifully written. I have some issues with the pacing and would like more action, and some (including myself) might find the content a little controversial... but maybe opinion-splitting isn't a bad thing in a book?
Partly I'm suggesting it because all other reviews seem to think it's the greatest book ever written, while I only thought it was beautiful and brilliantly written and really very good - and I'm curious to see whether others will agree with me, or whether I really am the only one who doesn't love it.
It's a novel about selkies.
Andrew wrote: "how about the way of kings or elantris by brandon sanderson"Both those have been read. Mistborn 2, Alloy of Law, his middle grade series and Emperor's Soul are the only Sanderson books that haven't been read I believe.
Adrianna wrote: "The Legend of Eli Monpress is an omnibus, are you nominating the first three books or just the first which is The Spirit Thief? ..."I'll second The Legend of Eli Monpress and let the readers decide how far they want to read.
Not a very deep or complex series, but the story is whimsical and the characters fun and lovable.
Here's a more unusual one... I enjoyed one of her other books Necromancer, and ended up getting an additional title on a whim. It's rated well on GR for an older book (1996), and would enjoy reading it with others. City of Bones.

Sandra aka Sleo wrote: "Um, I'd appreciate it if people would READ THE RULES!"Sandra you do realise that people never read the rules and it will be left to you yet again to mop up before voting. You have my sympathy! :)
I would love to read Dragons of Autumn Twilight. I heard it was really good. Or I wouldn't mind rereading Wizard's First Rule.

Please check the group bookshelves for books we've already read. Also check our sister group, Fantasy Book Club Series http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/3...
This is Fantasy Book Club, so books need to be in the fantasy genre.
Books must be available in a variety of formats. Books available only in ebook & Print on Demand formats are not suitable.
Only one nomination per person, please; although you can second as many books as you like.
You must provide links for the books. I am not going to search for them in order to post them to the poll. You can use the 'add book/author' link at the top of the comment box to search for your book link and post it.
Authors cannot nominate their own books.
Now, I think I've remembered everything, but maybe not. I sometimes forget something.
Last month I made the group private during nominations and polling. This month I am leaving it open during nomination, but will close it during voting to discourage vote packing.
Ok, have at it!
