Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments It's time for January book nominations! Once again, please read the rules about nominations.

Please check the group bookshelves for books we've already read. Also check our sister group, Fantasy Book Club Series http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/3...

This is Fantasy Book Club, so books need to be in the fantasy genre.

Books must be available in a variety of formats. Books available only in ebook & Print on Demand formats are not suitable.

Only one nomination per person, please; although you can second as many books as you like.

You must provide links for the books. I am not going to search for them in order to post them to the poll. You can use the 'add book/author' link at the top of the comment box to search for your book link and post it.

Authors cannot nominate their own books.

Now, I think I've remembered everything, but maybe not. I sometimes forget something.

Last month I made the group private during nominations and polling. This month I am leaving it open during nomination, but will close it during voting to discourage vote packing.

Ok, have at it!

Evie Does Lost Souls by Poppy Z Brite still fall within the fantasy genre? It's an interesting vampire-before-it-got-ridiculous book, New Orleans Mardi Gras atmosphere...
Lost Souls

Mark Lawrence (marklawrence) | 117 comments I'll nominate Control Point by Myke Cole

message 32: by carol. (new)

carol. Sandra aka Sleo wrote: "Um, I'd appreciate it if people would READ THE RULES!"

It always surprises me when readers of all people, don't read guidelines.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 772 comments I'd rather take a beating, with a cat-o-nine tales, and have lemon juice poured over the wounds...than even go near a reread of Thomas Covenant.

But that's just me...

message 34: by Olga (new)

Olga Godim (olgagodim) | 85 comments Alexandra wrote: "The Silmarillion As the hobbit is coming out.

Adrianna [SypherLily] (sypherlily) | 59 comments Michelle wrote: "Could I nominate The Legend of Eli Monpress? Rachel Aaron does a great job of creating strong characters. And it has a very unique magic elements."

The Legend of Eli Monpress is an omnibus, are you nominating the first three books or just the first which is The Spirit Thief?

Maggie K | 282 comments Mike (the Paladin) wrote: "I'd rather take a beating, with a cat-o-nine tales, and have lemon juice poured over the wounds...than even go near a reread of Thomas Covenant.

I am with you Mike! nuh-uh ( no one linked it anyway so we are probably safe)

message 38: by Lee (new)

Lee (kiwifirst) and I'll pack those wounds with salt before I try reading that again.

message 39: by seak (new)

seak One for Blackdog by K.V. Johansen. Been meaning to read this for a while now.

message 40: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 530 comments Thomas wrote: "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, The Unbeliever. An epic series."

I'll second it because unlike most people I love the series.

message 41: by Wastrel (new)

Wastrel | 136 comments The Brides of Rollrock Island - which is also published as "Sea Hearts" in some places.

It's very different from the normal epicy fantasy stuff - very small scale, low-magic, character-based. Stunningly beautifully written. I have some issues with the pacing and would like more action, and some (including myself) might find the content a little controversial... but maybe opinion-splitting isn't a bad thing in a book?

Partly I'm suggesting it because all other reviews seem to think it's the greatest book ever written, while I only thought it was beautiful and brilliantly written and really very good - and I'm curious to see whether others will agree with me, or whether I really am the only one who doesn't love it.

It's a novel about selkies.

message 42: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Hallowell I'll second Control Point.

message 43: by Dustin (new)

Dustin (tillos) | 26 comments Andrew wrote: "how about the way of kings or elantris by brandon sanderson"

Both those have been read. Mistborn 2, Alloy of Law, his middle grade series and Emperor's Soul are the only Sanderson books that haven't been read I believe.

message 44: by Dustin (last edited Nov 20, 2012 09:13PM) (new)

Dustin (tillos) | 26 comments Adrianna wrote: "The Legend of Eli Monpress is an omnibus, are you nominating the first three books or just the first which is The Spirit Thief? ..."

I'll second The Legend of Eli Monpress and let the readers decide how far they want to read.

Not a very deep or complex series, but the story is whimsical and the characters fun and lovable.

message 45: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (thorn969) | 43 comments I'd like to nominate Kushiel's Dart. I heard about it a few months back and it looked interesting.

message 46: by carol. (last edited Nov 21, 2012 03:17PM) (new)

carol. Here's a more unusual one... I enjoyed one of her other books Necromancer, and ended up getting an additional title on a whim. It's rated well on GR for an older book (1996), and would enjoy reading it with others. City of Bones.

message 47: by Magdalena (new)

Magdalena Kossakowska I'll secondThe Blinding Knife.

message 48: by Bev (new)

Bev (greenginger) | 744 comments Sandra aka Sleo wrote: "Um, I'd appreciate it if people would READ THE RULES!"

Sandra you do realise that people never read the rules and it will be left to you yet again to mop up before voting. You have my sympathy! :)

message 49: by Janinie Beanie (new)

Janinie Beanie (bookishsoul) I would love to read Dragons of Autumn Twilight. I heard it was really good. Or I wouldn't mind rereading Wizard's First Rule.
