Philip Martin | 7 comments I wanted to let folks know that my 2009 book, A Guide to Fantasy Literature, is now available as a Kindle edition. It's not just about J.R.R. Tolkien but his name does come up often in this look at the connection of fantasy to how we develop belief & values, and the types of fantasy from hobbity tales to magical realism to modern fairy-tales to vampiric epics to . . . Tolkien of course plays a major role, not just as the father of blockbuster fantasy books but also as a gifted storyteller/author and as a scholar of mythic tales.

Of course, I'd appreciate any reviews of the work from members of this group.

Philip Martin | 7 comments If you're a writer yourself, you might enjoy this post on some of the factors that made Tolkien such a great writer:

"Six Writing Tips from J.R.R. Tolkien"

It's not just about fantasy, applies to fiction in general. Feel free to pass the link on to any writing friends you think might be interested.
