Maria So according to the book's website, it'll be having a movie, but when? It's not even on imdb.

And I think this will be great as movie, even though it is quite dragging as a book.

Susanna I loved this book. I didn't think it dragged at all, but I like long descriptions. Straight after the book became a success I checked the imdb and it looked like there was going to be a movie, but years have passed and nothing happened. I wonder if they pulled out.

Holly I really enjoyed the book and I think it would make a spectacular film, taking into consideration the exotic locations and scenery that would be incorporated into a faithful film adaptation of the novel. The reason I liked this book is probably the same reason the film project has been delayed or canceled.......this is a traditional vampire story, and not a "glampire" story of the type that is currently trendy.

This is an exciting book, there are just some dragging parts for me :) I did not even see its imdb page. Strange.

And I don't even like those glampire things. Part of the reason I think this cancelled was the setting. The characters went to different countries, almost all over Europe, and you have to make the countries look like how they were before. Like Romania, you have to make it how it was during Vlad Tepe's time, then the time of Rossi, then the time of Paul. There are so many things to consider.

It's been pointed out by others that in reality the characters wouldn't be able to motor across Eastern Bloc countries the way they did.

Well, yes, I have questioned that myself, but it is a movie so I'm sure they can edit something so it will workout. But I was talking about more of the setting, look and feel, not how they went from country to country. I think that would need a big budget, and maybe they're not yet ready to cash in since they're not sure if it will be a hit.

Sadly, no news of the movie adaptation.

Saturday's Child I loved this novel so I'd be most keen to see a movie version of it.

Carina I think this would work really well as a movie. A lot of the dense descriptions that, at times, made it a tad boring (but were totally necessary) will look very good on film and would allow more of the action/sleuthing to come across.

William Snyder The Historian may be the worst book I've ever read. I would rather stick pins in my eyeballs than sit through a film version...

Heather-Lea This is a book that would do well as a movie, if even all it does is educate the public as to what is actually in Dracula. I enjoyed it, but I can see where others would be less than appreciative. I'd love to see how it can be adapted to film.

Really???

When I see an advertisement of something I did not enjoy I simply choose to not go and see it.

I would go and see this movie.

Celina I believe it should be turned into a movie. It's a unique take on the whole Dracula subject.

i. It will be really difficult to make a movie as good as the book.

Kristina Seleshanko Sometimes publishers get ahead of themselves in announcing movie versions, when all that's really happened is the movie rights have been sold. A classic case of this was "The Alienist." The author now admits it will probably never be made into a film...which is a shame, because it, too, could be a great movie.

Dinah I think if they tried to make a movie it would fail. They would end up cutting out too much to make it fit into the 2 hour format. What we would be left with is a movie that vaguely resembled the book. Why does someone always bring up making a really good book into a movie? The book was great. Leave it at that.

Nichole I heard it was in the works for a movie over a year ago, still hasn't made any advancements. I've read they were struggling to find the right actors for it because they don't want current, trendy actors that will make people watch it only because the actors are hot. Plus, it'd be a struggle to film, I'm sure. I have mixed feelings about it being a movie though. A little excited about the idea, but a little worried; it could turn out more engaging than the book was, or 10x worse.

Katherine Alot of studios buy the rights to books but never actually turn them into movies. Not sure how well it would translate into a movie. I would have to be very well done to stay true to the book and no "big" name actors please.

Adam Gottbetter So I guess there will be no movie. Adam Gottbetter

Elisa Santos Shame but it would be tricky to put this really dense and big book, with a lot of locations ancg events in to a 2 hoour movie - i think a lot would just end up in the editing room floor, and it would just be a chadow of the great book that this is.

Powder River Rose Maria wrote: "Shame but it would be tricky to put this really dense and big book, with a lot of locations ancg events in to a 2 hoour movie - i think a lot would just end up in the editing room floor, and it wo..."

I have to agree. It could make a great movie, but not in a 2-3 hr time frame.

Taylor If they did make a movie, I would hope they would use Elizabeth Kostova as a consultant. For Gone Girl, they had Gillian Flynn actually write the script and while it's not as long of a book, she at least got the important parts. They could do a series like what they did for the Hobbit, which is a shorter book than the Historian, but I don't know if it has as much of a following.

Either way, I would love to see this be turned into a movie as long as they keep as much of the essence of the story as possible.

Elisa Santos The writter beying envolved in the actual prodution of the movie is no garantee that it will turn out better - see Philippa Gregory and her participation on the making of The Other Boleyn Girl: the movie was a wreck and had stand-alone cenes that made no sense, because f all the editing.

Maybe a mini-serie, like P&P in 1995?

I normally don't like movies that are made from good books. I think this would make a good movie provided they don't rewrite it too much.

You are probably right mini series perhaps..

Helmi Hartono Still reading but loving it so far. It's gripping and I actually got jumpy on a train in broad daylight. The movie adaptation should be two films. Part 1 about the dad's memories as in the book while part two follows the daughter to conclusion, maybe.
