Kylie | 77 comments Hello! My name is Kylie. I am a recent college graduate (Master's in Education) and am a certified history teacher. I am currently my father's caregiver. As a result, I have been flying through my TBR list. Luckily, there are more books out there that I want to read than I can probably ever read! I can't read to read some great classic romances with everyone!

Melissa (melee82) | 7 comments Hi! My name is Melissa and I am a political consultant, with my Master's in Political Management. I am currently enjoying downtime from campaigns, and am catching up on all the books I haven't been able to read because I was so busy these last few months. Anna Karenina is my absolute favorite book of all time, and I also enjoy chick lit, historical fiction, and the occasional who-done-it book.

Favorite 19th Century Romances include Tolstoy's 'Ana Karenina', Charlotte Bronte's 'Jane Eyre', Jane Austen's 'Persuasion', and Dickens' 'Bleak House'.

message 6: by Marie (new)

Marie Schuh (eslachtdermai) Hi, I'm Marie. I'm a high school science teacher who is constantly reading any book that I can get my hands on...though I tend to focus on YA fiction, since that's what my students read and then I can talk to them about it. My favorites books though are "Pride and Prejudice," "Pillars of the Earth," and the whole "Chronicles of Narnia" series.

message 7: by Heidi (new)

Heidi HI there, I'm Heidi and I'm a veteran of the US Navy, currently studying to become a paralegal. I'm also unemployed, so I'm constantly looking for work. I have never really read much for pleasure until this year, so I'm exploring a lot of different genres.

message 8: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (miriammarion) | 6 comments Hello everyone, I'm Miriam. I'm an Italian high school student, so I hope you will apologize my not-always-correct English:) Well, I read almost everything, but my favourite 19th Century Romance is without doubt "Jane Eyrie"... It has replaced even my young love "The Chronicles of Narnia"!
P.S. If I make any mistakes please tell me, I want to improve my English. ;)

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) Hi everyone!
I joined Goodreads just this summer, so I'm still tripping around...looking for my niche.
Mostly I like to read fantasy books, but before there was much in that genre I read classics, like The Black Rose, A Tale of Two Cities, Ivanhoe...
I'm an artist...though stuck between ideas right now.
I love animals (currently have several furbabies now).
And....like to create novelties.

message 16: by Bii (last edited Dec 08, 2012 09:53AM) (new)

Bii (biileto) Heeey ya'll!
My name's Beatriz and I'm, same as Miriam, a high school student, but from Portugal.
I always loved books and they're my great passion and comfort. My favorite books are specially classic ones, though my ultimate is 'Persuasion', by Jane Austen. My last read was 'Anna Karénina', by Lev Tolstoi, which I read to my Portuguese class. I liked it a lot and then I found out this page existed - so this time I'm determined to read along 'Les Misérables'. I'm currently reading 'The Flashes of Death', by the only Portuguese winner of the Literature Nobel Prize, José Saramago. You really should read it!
Humm, by the way, I also love to write novels and all.

Christine Hello, I'm Christine. I'm an avid reader and actually wish I read more. I'm currently reading a PD James mystery, based on Austen's Pride and Prejudice. I'm thinking of re-reading (again) Anna Karinina with all the movie hype going on. But instead will start "Rules of Civility" by Amor Towles.

Annie (anniecarrillo15) | 3 comments Hi, I am Annie. I live in Oregon and I am 15. I am currently working on reading many classic books such as Jane Austen's works and the Bronte sister's works. I've always loved reading but I only recently took up reading classics. I am currently reading Mansfield Park and it is the last of Jane Austen's 6 novels that I have to read. I hope to be reading Les Miserables after this.

message 24: by Maxine (new)

Maxine Hello! I'm Maxine-Max to everyone who knows me.I'm a retired nurse, history nut, Anglophile, and lover of literature, poetry and reading.

As far as I'm concerned,in 19th Century literature, there's "Wuthering Heights" and then, there's everything else! Not that "everything else" isn't great reading, I just love "Wuthering Heights" that much. "A Tale of Two Cities" and "Anna Karenina" would tie for 2nd greatest.

I am also currently reading "Good Omens" by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. and it is quite humorous. I look forward to making some new friends here. Thanks! Pj

Tess Julia | 3 comments Hello everyone! This is the first time I've joined a group so I'll try to keep up with it. I'm a registered nurse living in the deep South of the U.S., but I'm a transplant from the North. I'm also a writer, working to get myself known but it's a tough market.
I have a blog at http://aspiringwriter-honey.blogspot.com if you would like to come visit. I am going to start reading Sense and Sensibility with some of my fellow bloggers in the writing community if you would like to join the discussion there too. Nice to meet you all!

message 31: by Marilyn (new)

Marilyn | 1 comments Hi, everyone! I'm Marilyn and I have just finished up my graduate degree. This past year has been so busy and I have devoted so much time to writing my dissertation that I've barely had time for anything else. I am SO excited about being able to read fiction again! Some of my favorite authors are Jane Austen (Pride and Prejudice), Charles Dickens (probably David Copperfield) and Alexandre Dumas (The Three Musketeers). There is a lot of 19th century literature that I've always wanted to read, but have never quite seemed to find the time or inclination to do so. To that end, I joined this book group and I'm excited to start Les Miserables!

message 32: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1 comments Hello,

Reading helps me get out of self and helps pass the time. The only classic I've read is Jane Eyre. I'm just starting Les Miserables.

message 35: by msleighm (last edited Dec 13, 2012 06:31AM) (new)

msleighm Greetings! My name is Leigh (pronounced Lee), I am now 43, and for most of my life have lived on the east coast of the US - the bulk of it in Massachusetts/New England and now New Jersey with seven years in northern Virginia. I've always had a connection to Victorian era literature, going back to second or third grade and my near obsession with Louisa May Alcott. In eighth grade I remember I went through a Thomas Hardy phase. Parts of my life I have been both an amateur and a professional actress, my favorite and best role being Anna in The King and I (ah, the research, the costumes...). Currently, I am sick, mostly house/bed bound with Lyme and other tick bourne illnesses. I've been getting a lot of reading done when I can. Last summer I even had the energy (barely) to take a community college lit course, we studied Moby Dick, that was amazing. I've been lurking here watching what you all are reading for a while. It's difficult for me to commit to any kind of schedule (as I learned with that class) and I'll go a week or more at a time when I don't have the energy to log onto the computer. That being said, one of these days I will join in and may comment from time to time. Some of your selections I've already read.
I live with my boyfriend and five (2 too many) cats. On my bedside table are: Remarkable Creates by Tracy Chevalier, t.c. boyle stories, Bram Stoker Dracula's Guest and Other Weird Stories, F. Scott Fitzgerald The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Other Jazz Age Stories, The Human Revolution Book One by Daisaku Ikeda, The McGraw Hill Handbook of English Grammar and Usage and (finally) Living Vegan for Dummies.
Happy holidays all, whatever your faith - or non faith.
~Leigh

Martha (marthas48) Hello, everyone! My name is Martha. I've been a member for awhile, but realized that I hadn't introduced myself yet. I love classics as well as mysteries, histories, biographies, historical fiction and young adult books. I'll try anything ... a good story is a good story no matter what the genre. Jane Eyre is probably my favorite classic. I've enjoyed all the Bronte books that I've read so far. Other classic authors that I love are Elizabeth Gaskell, Jane Austen, Wilkie Collins & Charles Dickens. I'm a caseworker who will probably retire soon to enjoy more time with family and more time for reading.

Lucy | 12 comments Hello everybody! Let me introduce myself. I am 58 yrs young and live in south Texas with my husband and dogs. I am a BIG dog lover. The little one on my profile pic is my girl Dixie. I have another indoor dog, a Dachshund, named Jack and several outside dogs. I love to read but have not been able to read books of my choosing lately because I belong to a book club and we usually have one month to read the chosen book so that doesn't leave me much time to read the type of book that I like but even then I enjoy reading any genre. Reading is, I feel, a dying pastime and I'm glad that I passed the love of reading to my daughters (they and I started the book club).Nice "meeting" everyone.:)

My favorite books are stories that take place in the 19th century, so I'm enjoying this group. I love to read anything however and ever since my exposure to a book club a couple of years ago I've certainly expanded my library shelf to a variety of subjects I never would have selected on my own.
