What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I read this book a few years ago, and my memory is terrible, but I'll try to write as much as I can remember about it. It was a teen/YA fiction novel about a girl who goes/gets sent to a boarding school in NY. I'm pretty sure it can only be seen by people who are supposed to go there - I can't remember if this school is an all-girls' school or not, but it might be. At one point the main character follows one of her classmates (a girl, which leads me to believe it's an all-girls' school, as I said) who meets up with a group of guys and they're discussing the villains of the novel. They might be vampires. It's hard to know. Anyway, main character goes snooping through the castle at one point, finds some secret passageways, and I think she finds out she has powers of some sort? There was definitely some sort of monster chasing after her during one of her snooping sessions, I remember that much.

I'm sorry that it isn't much to go on, but it's been ages and I really can't remember much. :/ If anyone has any idea I'd be eternally grateful, as I'd love to read the sequel!

It's Chloe Neill's books I think - the first in the series is Firespell - but they are set in Chicago not NY - everything else matches your description
