Wilhelmina Jenkins | 2049 comments It's December - holiday time! Does anyone have any special books that they are hoping to receive as gifts this year or that they are giving to others as gifts? And let's remember that our group member, author Carleen Brice, named Decenber as National Buy a Book By a Black Author and Give it to Somebody Not Black Month! If you have never watched her amusing video about this idea, take a look at this link:

Happy holidays!

Wilhelmina Jenkins | 2049 comments A couple of books that I wouldn't mind finding in my stocking are We Are Taking Only What We Need by Stephanie Powell Watts and Elsewhere, California: A Novel by Dana Johnson. I still haven't picked up South by Southeast by Steven Barnes, Tananarive Due, and Blair Underwood either. And I could definitely use a copy of our January discussion book, The Round House by Louise Erdrich. What about you?

Beverly | 2907 comments My family and friends have also found it hard to shop for book gifts for me - as they never knew what I have and it is even harder now - with ebooks.

I do get and give Amazon and BN gift cards.

I have bought Grace, God and Glory: My Leap of Faith by Gabrielle Douglas for each of my granddaughters (14 & 12). I will find a book for each of my grandsons and probably for Son-In-Law.

Mina, can I add to this list when I think of others or it locked in?

I tend to gravitate towards the the large books for the holiday: Coffee Table books; Big Biographies; Hardcover Fiction & Non-Fiction. And, most lean to music and Jazz in particular

Coffee Table:
Miles Davis: The Complete Illustrated History
360 Sound: The Columbia Records Story
William Claxton -Jazz Life

Biographies:
Pops: A Life of Louis Armstrong - Terry Teachout
Thelonious Monk: The Life and Times of an American Original - Robin D. G. Kelley

Fiction (Hardcover):
The Brief wondrous life of Oscar Wao - Junot Diaz
Tambourines To Glory: A Novel - Langston Hughes

Non-Fiction (Hardcover):
The New Granta Book of the American Short Story '07 R. Ford editor
Detroit City is the place to be - Mark Binelli
Digging: The Afro-American Soul of American Classical Music - Amiri Baraka
The Origins of the Urban Crisis (race and inequality in PostWar Detroit) Thomas Sugrue
The Cross of Redemption: Uncollected writings - James Baldwin
