For members of the Historical Fictionista group only, I am hosting a giveaway before the group read begins, starting on Feb. 5 and ending on Feb. 15 (to give you time to get the book, if you win, before the group read starts). I am giving away one copy of the print edition to readers living in the United States and two e-books to those overseas (ePub or Kindle—your choice). If you win the print book but would prefer an e-book, you have the option to request one.

Note that this giveaway is independent of the one underway at the same time, conducted through Goodreads itself, which is open to any Goodreads member living in the United States and runs through March 25. I set that one up before winning the Historical Fictionistas poll.

Hi everyone! I'm a group member here and just heard from my publisher, William Morrow/HarperCollins that they're running a GoodReads Giveaway of my book The Ghost Bride
I'm very excited as this is my first giveaway as an author, and would love to invite you for this preview!
http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sho...
Yangsze Choo’s stunning debut, THE GHOST BRIDE, is a startlingly original novel infused with Chinese folklore, romantic intrigue, and unexpected supernatural twists.
“One evening, my father asked me if I would like to become a ghost bride…”
Li Lan, a young Chinese woman, lives in 1890s colonial Malaya with her quietly ruined father, who returns one evening with a proposition — the fabulously wealthy Lim family want Li Lan to marry their son. The only problem is, he’s dead.
After a fateful visit to the opulent Lim mansion, Li Lan finds herself haunted not only by her ghostly would-be suitor, but also by her desire for the Lim’s handsome new heir. Night after night, she is drawn into the shadowy parallel world of the Chinese afterlife, with its ghost cities, paper funeral offerings, vengeful spirits and monstrous bureaucracy. Li Lan must uncover the Lim family’s darkest secrets, before she is trapped in this ghostly world forever.
Reminiscent of Lisa See’s PEONY IN LOVE and Deborah Harkness' A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES, THE GHOST BRIDE is a wondrous coming-of-age story from a remarkable new voice in fiction.
Published August 2013 as general fiction by William Morrow/HarperCollins in the US and as a Young Adult/crossover book by Hot Key Press in the UK.

Ilene wrote: "The Not Exactly Scarlet Pimpernel looks good, hope I win."Ilene, that giveaway ended in December. Sorry!
The book is still available as print or e-book, though. Thank you for your interest.
Sounds interesting Stephanie. I hope I will win a copy but good luck all the same.
Tammy, I hope you win, too! I had more fun writing this than I did during my bad behavior years.Imagine 'Larry the cable guy' on a mission, mixed with moonshine, conjuring, church and fifty five thousand real life Indians who do not want the mission to succeed.
Hi! I'm giving away 5 paperback copies of The Master and the Maid
The Giveaway is running until the end of May. If your country isn't on the list, let me know and I'll add it
Can anyone help me with a technical problem? I set up a giveaway about a week ago, to start 1 May. After I did so I saw a message saying Note: "This giveaway is pending your verification. resend verification email". I clicked on resend verification email. I went back to the giveaway page for my book today and saw that the message "Note: This giveaway is pending your verification. resend verification email" is still there. I clicked again on resend verification email. Nothing happened. What am I supposed to do?

Forgive me if this is obvious, but did you check the e-mail account associated with Goodreads to find and respond to the verification e-mail?
GR is trying to ensure that you are not a spambot (don't ask me why a spambot would try to give away your book). So it sends a verification e-mail asking if you really intended to set up the giveaway. You have to click on the link in the message to confirm that you did.
C.P. wrote: "...Forgive me if this is obvious, but did you check the e-mail account associated with Goodreads to find and respond to the verification e-mail?... "Thanks, CP. I haven't received an email from Good Reads about the giveaway. I've clicked on 'resend verification email' I don't know how many times now but nothing has happened and the giveaway is still listed as pending even though it is supposed to start today. I've sent a message to the Help people so I'll just have to wait to see what they say.
Latest news - I've checked my email account again and found my spam box full of Good Reads verification emails. I don't understand how they got in there because all my other GR emails arrive in my inbox. Anyway problem now sorted but it's going to take up to two days for the giveaway to kick in. Megathanks to CP for pointing me in the right direction.
My giveaway is now underway, a day late but still fourteen to go. It's for a travel book Prickly Pears of Palestine
, an account of my time living in the West Bank. Here is the giveaway linkhttp://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sho...

FROM OUR GROUP RULES REGARDING ADVERTISING
In an effort to make these rules as clear as possible, we consider all of the following to be advertising (allowed when following the guidelines below):
• Mentioning one’s books by title
• Linking to one’s books, either here on Goodreads, or on other sites, either via text or image
• Linking to one’s website, including blogs
• Advertising for giveaways, promotions, free books, or sales
Advertising and/or Self-promotion is allowed ONLY when the following circumstances are met:
- You are an active and participating member in the group. This means that you participate in group discussions or challenges, and have made a MINIMUM of 25 posts in the group, not including advertising or self-promotion posts.
- With three exceptions (below), ALL advertising or promotion must be posted in the "Advertising and Promotions" folder, in one of the three available threads. Choose the one that is closest to the purpose of your post:
• Contests & Giveaways - Advertise blog contests or GR giveaways
• Deals & Discounts - Amazon discounts, reduced rate e-books, discount codes, sales, etc.
• News & Upcoming Releases - Advertise when we can expect a new book release or other news, etc.
Exceptions:
1. An initial introductory comment (for new members only) stating that you are an author or blogger, etc, is allowed.
2. If your book is specifically relevant to a member request for recommendations, you may recommend it. Otherwise, recommending your book will be considered spam and the post will be deleted. By "specifically relevant" we mean that your book must share characteristics that the asker is looking for, IN ADDITION to genre or sub-genre (Historical Fiction, Historical Romance, Historical Fantasy, Historical PNR, etc).
Example: If the request is for Historical Romance set in the 1700s featuring a strong Scottish heroine, you may recommend your book if it matches the request, but it is not appropriate to recommend your book to everyone looking for a Historical Romance, even though it would technically fit the request.
Likewise, it is not appropriate to join conversations simply to turn the focus to your book(s).
3. Discussions mentioning your own books in the Author Zone folder will not be deleted as a general rule, unless the thread or post contains spam that we do not permit in the group - see below.
The following will be considered spam (NOT allowed at any time):
• Author marketing discussions, including tips & tricks
• Author stats (anything from Amazon sales rank to NYT Bestseller List placement) etc
• Using any banners or signatures
• Phishing or other generally recognized spam (Any user caught phishing etc will be deleted and blocked immediately.)
Other posts promoting your own book outside of the appropriate folder or thread will be deleted, and you will be warned via PM. Further inappropriate posts or spam after a warning will result in removal from the group.
