I have read some good books this year but the top three I will list here are the one that "touched" me in a particular way.Life and Fate by Vasily Grossman
Solo by Rana Dasgupta
Beside the Sea by Véronique Olmi
The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Quiet Flows the Don by Mikhail Sholokhov
For me it's more a top 5:
Three books actually where war also plays a role.
The series by Simon Beckett on David Hunter was something I discovered this year and loved a great deal. Especially the third book in the series turned out to be a real cliffhanger.
Currently I'm listening to Gypsy Boy by Mikey Walsh and I really like it a lot.
I have so many !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But, I believe I'm going to stick with the Title & Theme of this group: "Around the World in 80 Books":: By Laura Resau,
there's the "Colorful Notebook" Series: 01. The Indigo Notebook,
. This book was set in Ecuador, if I recalled it properly. I know it was somewhere that speaks Spanish. 02. The Ruby Notebook,
. This book was set in France. 03. The Jade Notebook,
. This book was set in Mexico. I'll post more, later.
My favorite reads this year were The Turkish Lover by Esmeralda Santiago, Son by Lois Lowry, Every Day by David Lavithan, and Every Seventh Wave by Daniel Glattauer.
Wow! These are some great titles to put on my list for 2013. Here are a few of mine: David Grossman, To the End of the Land, Ann Patchett, State of Wonder, Isabel Wilkerson, The Warmth of Other Sons.
Ian wrote: "My top 3 reads of 2012 were:

- Egypt, Nigeria and Belgium respectively."Those are all high up on my want-to-read list!
I read a lot of good books this year, but then I read a lot of books, period. These books stand out in my mind:
I'm sure there re a few more I'm not remembering.
Reading a variety of Bushnell Candace novels... really all great, one unique novel led me to discover and browse more novels from Candace Bushnell. Thanks to this, Candace Bushnell has became one of my Most Admired Authors.
Tigers On The Tenth Day And Other Stories by Zakaria TamerThis was probably the best book I read last year. If you have an interest in Syrian short stories and can find it in your library, I would recommend this.
The three favorites of books I have read published in 2012 are#1 -
- the best - really good book#2 -
- was runner up for The Pulitzer for fiction.#3 -
But I have only read 9 2012 books and plan to still read many more.
My favorite three books read in 2012 are the first three books of the Song of Ice and Fire series in order of favorite first
