OK, I've submitted my nominating ballot. I nominated four novels:Jack Glass by Adam Roberts
The Drowning Girl by Caitlin R. Kiernan
Whispers Under Ground by Ben Aaronovitch
The Hollow City by Dan Wells
Of these, I would be very surprised if any except the Kiernan made the ballot, but you've got to nominate what seems best. Frankly, I had some trouble coming up with a list of books to nominate, because I wasn't that impressed with most of what I read from last year.
I did a really bad job of keeping up with new sci-fi in 2012. I loved Ian Tregillis' The Coldest War and Paolo Bacigalupi's The Drowned Cities though. The latter would be my pick for novel of the year.
I fully admit that I just don't have time to keep up with new releases. I wait for the recommendations to trickle down after they've been vetted a bit. Reading time aside, I see that The Drowning Girl by Kiernan just won a Triptree Award. Kim Stanley Robinson's 2312 was considered.
