Would you guys vote for reading the Lord of the Rings books before the Hobbit, or reading the Hobbit first?

I read The Hobbit first ... haven't actually read the LotR as yet (waiting for them to get here) ... if you're a kid, probably The Hobbit, since The Hobbit was written as a childrens' book, so it would get you used to J.R.R Tolkien's writing before moving onto the LotR? Not sure ... since I haven't read the LotR I can't really vote xD

Haha, I really have to read those soon!!!
I was read 'the hobbit' as a bedtime story when i was a child, and so it has been a much loved tale throughout my life. I was SO pleased when they announced that Peter Jackson was making it into a film (or should i say films), like 'The lord of the rings' films, as it is just spectacular and made for the big screen. The clever combination between humour and wit amidst death defying battles is extrordinary, and i am not sure that any author of today would have had the courage nor the skill to pull-off what Tolkien did. I have studdied and read JRR Tolkien's books for years, and if i had to choose one to read at bedtime then it would be this one!

Just re-read it! It's brilliant. One of my all-time favourites. Sorry ... I can't express how awesome it is xD. After finishing it I craved more Tolkien ... so I started LotR :P
NO! Well I did but the person hasn't turned it in so he/she is getting fined until they bring it in!
Nope! Apparently when they called me they said that the person lost it(I think stole would be the correct word) and that they would have to order a new one for me! But, hey, at least I get a brand new one and not one that has been touched by 30 million other people!

I was so desperate a few months ago to replace my ancient copy of The Hobbit, that i finally decided to go to WHSmith bookshop and buy a brand new copy. This was typical...a few weeks later i found the exsact same paperback copy of The Hobbit
in a secondhand shop, at a quarter of the price!!
I believe this group is for Hobbit fans in general, Max ... movie fans and book ones P:But you MUST read the book :D It's so. awesomely. brilliant :)))))
I found my copy of The Hobbit in a second hand store. I own this edition: http://www.google.com/imgres?sa=X&...

I own a harback
with illustrations by Allan Lee and also the traditional paperback
.I would love a film tie-in paperback...perhaps added to my B'Day list?!
I have the film tie-in paperback ... in a box set with LOTR. Good enough to read, but not the nicest copy, since it's paperback and won't last too long. And I'm getting it in Latin for my birthday xD

Whoa, you can read in Latin? That's cool
That's the trouble with paperbacks. No matter how careful you are, they do tend to wear out eventually & a lot quicker.
