S. Frederick is the British working-class and Miranda is the UK upper-middle class

Frederick is UK and Miranda are the colonies.. incl.

Frederick is England and Miranda is America
Frederick is ENgland and Miranda is Australia
Frederick is England and Miranda is Africa / India / Singapore etc.

Fred is Victorian England and Miranda is 20th cent. UK

Fred is pre 1950s and Miranda is new 1960s UK

Fred is everyman and Miranda is every woman

the entire work is an allegory on marriage

the entire work is an allegory on religion (incl, Fred is the Church of England and Miranda is one of the mousy gray believers)

the entire work is an allegory on the monarchy

anything else?
