I didnt understand. Why would jack and nikki wanted to kill cole? I mean,it didnt matter right? The tunnels cant be avoided. Someone still had to go

It's been a while since I read the book BUT I'm pretty sure if they killed Cole, the tunnels would stop coming after them.
but how? I dont remember if it was mentioned in the book
SPOILER ALERT!! They were after his guitar because that's where they thought his heart was. I guess everlivings have their hearts in objects rather than inside their bodies? In the end it ended up being the guitar pick not the guitar itself so they couldn't kill him in time.
SPOILERS AHEAD!They were after Cole's heart because if you disrupted one of the five parts in the human soul (in this case the heart), that Everliving would no longer be able to Feed off energy.
I had to flip through the book for three minutes before I found this answer on page 340.

I know that part. Cole would dies. But,then what? The tunnels will still after nikki. And it wouldnt stop until the debt is paid

I don't think the idea of that is clear in the book. Maybe Cole is Nikki's connection to the Tunnels, so if he is dead she no longer has a connection. Therefore she would no longer have to go to the tunnels.

Nooo, Cole wanted a queen.
Either way though, wouldn't the tunnels still come after her considering that Cole's not the only one of his kind.... Just saying that ya Cole wanted a queen and killing him would have gotten her out of that but.. not out of her debt.. ya know?
cause they thought cole was being a jerk
