The "sequel" to Curse of Chalion. This novel focuses on Ista and is set three years later.

This book I liked the best, of the three Chalion books. Ista is a strong leading character, which was appealing to me. I liked the way she moved to make a change in her life, and the way she unintentionally became a miracle maker, talking back to gods (especially one of them), and the romance between her and lord Illvin was to me much more convincing than the one between Caz and Betriz.

I remember reading the opening paragraph of the novel and sighing with pleasure at the pure joy of reading LMB's language....

Oh, yes!
And we have a few so very good translators who did a wonderful job with the Vorkosigan series, translating it totally in the spirit of the Croatian language, while keeping the way LMB expresses herself intact. I realized just how much that was true after I read the Chalion books in English. I wish they would translate the whole opus...
