Hi NikhilI a couple of shelves of short story collections, amongst them a few crime (although the bulk are SF or 'literary'), and most are of an older type.
I can recommend the Pulp Fiction series of collections edited by Otto Penzler and the various 'Mammoth Book of...' crime collections, which include writing from all eras (I have the Mammoth Book of Best British Crime.
I have a few single-author collections (I won't recommend you my Holmes, and wouldn't dream of recommending Jeffrey Archer!) For my money, Dashiell Hammett, for whom there are many collections of shorts to be found.
Enjoy your reading!
Depending on what you can get, you might want to look at this site.
http://www.prologuebooks.com/ These books are available on Kindle. These books usually don't run more than 200 pages. I agree with Nikhil about the Otto Penzler series. Not much more I can think of regarding short stories unless you get the best of at the end of the year. Below are my recommendations from the site.
Ron
Gil Brewer
Ed Lacy
Wade Miller
William Campbell Gault
Day Keene
Bruno Fischer

I would also say that if you want to try new authors, you can look at this site for free. Victor Gischler used to be one of the editors of this publication. They have good stories. I was on many years ago.

Hello everybody.I am new to this group. I am looking for a book or a story which involves theft. The plot should be misdirecting as in the theft should contain multiple suspects all with a different motive with a lot of twists. Can anyone please help me with the name of few such stories, novels or books?
Regards,
Krishanu

They all revolve around theft and often the theft of stolen objects from the people who originally stole them, namely professional thief John Dortmunder.
Hi Nikhil,I, too, am a fan of the short story form, especially mystery short stories. Here are some collections of mystery shorts that I have enjoyed:
- Who Died In Here?
- all of the Chesapeake Crimes anthologies of the Chesapeake chapter of Sisters in Crime, including
Chesapeake Crimes 3
- Wolfmont Press's holiday anthologies that benefit Toys for Tots, including Carols and Crimes, Gifts and Grifters
This is a good compilation of stories in the noir genreCrime Novels: American Noir of the 1930s & 40s
Or the best short stories of the Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine.
Fifty Best Mysteries
Thank you all for your recommendations ..Please input more of the same if you can . especially short stories from new writers !!
Hi Nikhil,
It's nice to meet you. I am not sure if you are interested, but I have just released a mystery/crime novel similar as James Patterson style. My novel is called, Killer Rumors. For a synopsis, please take a look at my profile. If interested, please take a look at Authonomy where a sample of my novel is displayed. Thank you for your time. Wishing you all the best!
