So like, you mean we write a story in pairs? And then vote to see which is best?
Yikes. I love the idea of working together but I also hate the idea of people having to see my crap. *wince*
Excellent idea. Does it have to be in a specific genre or whatever? Some other narrower criteria?
Yes I agree teammates should be random. We don't want hard feelings over people picking one over another.

Yeah, I think this will be cool :) And teammates random - Danny should probably assign them since it's his idea.
This will be fun, I think :)

I'm glad to people like my idea :) I figured that the only stipulation other than a randomn teammate would be a word count that we could all figure out. I'm thinking something like 800 words at least and 5000 at most. Once everyone has had a chance to see this thread, I'll take their names put them in a hat and get the teams.
Are there requirements as to things like genre, content (mature content or not, though I'm guessing most of us won't try to include lots of gratuitous violence and sex in a simple little short story). And if the way we decide which story is the best is by voting, then it's probably better to have an odd number of teams, unless we can come up with a good tiebreaker for possible ties. Also I worry that everyone will just vote for their own story, though it's possibly unlikely. On the other hand, if people DO vote for their own stories, then they'll be seen as biased and blah blah blah.
If we decide not to judge them by voting, then perhaps we could also consider submitting them to a particularly respectable GR member (e.g. Keely or Scribble or Nataliya--or basically anyone who cares enough!)
Oops sorry guys I kinda rambled on there...

Yeah, we should have a wordcount that we all agree on, though what you wrote Danny is probably good.
And I agree with Jocelyn about that we need to know if there are requirements for the things she mentioned... :)

I don't think there needs to be a genre restriction. We can try to keep the stories 14 pg. As for voting, my idea was that people voted as individuals but were not alowed to vote for their own story. We could perhaps submit them to a goodreads member like Jocelyn said. That pretty much covers everything. I'll just wait til there are more peole to start the competition.
Love the idea!!!! I, *cough*, do have the slight problem of spastic Internet access curtesy of my parents confiscating my iPhone... Life sucks right now. I can't get on goodreads every day, I haven't seen an episode of Supernatural in over a week, I can't text my boyfriend, the list goes on.... I'm rambling. I will join IF I can get some way of getting on goodreads more regularly. I make no guarantees.

Danny Whatever-Your-Last-Name-Is, don't push it. I have a stash of fruit leather some where..,
Anywho, I love the idea!

The only problem with the submission part (if that's what we decide to do) is that I'll churn out a story soooooo bad that the judge, whoever it may be, will regret agreeing to this little contest of ours. XD
As for the mature content or not, I think we can all agree to keep it pretty PG-13. Anything else is for G.R.R. Martin to deal with. ;)

This is also the same as me... :/

Danny, can you make sure the deadline, whatever it is, is flexible?
Ok, guys, I'm sorry for the delay, but Emily's dissapearance kind of put this idea on hold. So, If you are still interested, let me know and I'll get it started.
I hate to put it this way, but it's lucky that Emily disappeared before Danny completed everything, otherwise it would have screwed everything up.
Because you would have already had everyone in pairs, and once Emily disappeared you'd have to reset it all again. Not that it's particularly hard to draw people in a hat, but...still.
Emily's disappearance is still pretty sad though. D:

Thanks. All I need to know is whether Tagg is going to be able to participate.

I'm really sorry. I just got kind of preoccupied. I promise the teams will be ready by tomorrow night,

Haha, two days later actually. It's February, so 28 days, not 30.

All right, all right. I live in the Pacific Time Zone so it seems like it's still on March 2 when you wrote that. My mistake. :D
Ok, JazzyJams and I were fated to be on the same team because before Tahliah joined I had shuffled up the teams and Jazzy and I were on the same one.

High five, Taliah!
Ummmm, can you push the dealine a little back? Maybe a week? That way my spring break fits in and I can have a lot more time.

The deadline can always be extended too if we need it to. Oh, and remember the story needs to be 800-5000 words long.
I have an idea about the deadline. Let's not post a solid deadline now, as deadlines make me (personally) very jumpy and nervous and unable to think (even a flexible one that can be extended). Let's all write for a little bit for the next three weeks or so, then report our progress and set the deadline from there, because we have a better idea of how fast we can write. So, maybe it could be April 5, or 15, or all the way into May, or who knows, by the end of this month!
