Mark | 33 comments In the fantasy book The Magician by Michael Scott one person who is most influential person to the protagonist Nicholas Flamel is the twins Sophie and Josh Newman. In the book so far Nicholas has found one ally in Paris named Cinte de Saubt Gernain who can help out and give Sophie the power of fire to attack her enemies. Machiavelli has followed Nicholas to the Eiffel tower where he was supposed to make plans with Cinte de Saubt Gernain, now Nicholas has told the rest of the gang to run while he deals with Machiavelli. Also Sophie feels that Josh is jealous of her powers and Josh is starting to think that he no longer knows who Sophie is anymore. A quote from the book that shows how the twins are very influential to Nicholas. “You guys just need to trust me right now I’m doing all that I can do to protect you. Well great job, I am not trying to harm you I am doing everything I can do to protect you I am giving up all that I can just for you guys so that you can save the world.”(103) this shows how the two twins have an influential role on Nicholas. Nicholas wants the kids to be safe and he is doing the best that he can to help them also train them and give them powers so they can save the world.

Matthew | 34 comments In the science fiction, Unwind, by Neil Shusterman, the one thing I want to learn more about is why parents would want to unwind their kids. I find it to be horrifying that a parent would want to do that to their child no matter how bad they are. Unwinding is when parents can take their children apart and send their body parts to families who need them. In the book, the main characters are fearful that they are going to be unwound so they are on the run. A quote that shows more about unwinding is -- "She's lying,"says a scrawny, pale boy sitting on Risa's other side. "She's an Unwind." Suddernly the boeuf boy leans away, as if unwinding is contagious. "Oh,"he says, "Well..uh...that's too bad. See ya"!" And he leaves to sit with some of boeufs in the back. This makes me more curious about the process of unwinding. Kids don't want to associate with you if they find out that you may be unwound. I want to find out why unwinding was ever made possible.

Justin Yu | 20 comments In the Sci-fi book I am Legend by Richard Matheson, the book is about a man named Robert Neville. He is a lonely man with no where to go but his humble little hole, the apartment, he is stuck there because of a non cure-able plague. This disease really gets me thinking about how this came to earth anyway. This is something I would like to know about. Is it a failed experiment from scientists? Is it a disease from outer space? What makes this so deadly? These questions are important because this thing is unknown. The only thing left now that they can do is evacuate to a safe place

Elva C. | 40 comments In the nonfiction memoir book, Tuesdays With Morrie, by Mitch Albom, the book is about a young man named Mitch, and his old college professor, Morrie. Morrie only have a small time to live, before he dies. He is developed with ALS, a disease with no cure. After finding out that his old professor won't live for long anymore, and he is going to die, Mitch goes to visit Morrie. When visiting Morrie, he already knows that Mitch found out that he is dyeing. This is why Morrie is influential to me. In the book, Morrie tells Mitch, "I give myself a good cry if I need it. But then I concentrate on all the good things still in my life..." (57). This quote is very inspirational to me. This quote shows how Morrie, even though that he knows, he is dying, he doesn't think that everything is over. There are still things that are good to him. People still care about him. He is very positive for a person who is about to die, and I find that very inspirational.

Monica | 43 comments One of the most inspiring books ever written is Libba Bray's fiction novel, The Sweet Far Thing. My protagonist, Gemma Doyle, has been in the Spence Academy for young ladies for many months now. She had to be sent here ever since her mother was murdered, and her father being an intense drug addict. She was to be discovered that she herself has extreme power and she was to bound her magic along with her friends. Since I just began reading this book, I already wanted to know some knowledge based the passages that I just read so far. Why is Mrs. Nightwing so strict and mean in that kind of manner? Does she have something along her previous past that bothered her? Or, was she just born that way with no shift in personality? In the book, Mrs. Nightwing speaks in a very strange manner and she can really form a picture in my head while she poses her position. "When we cannot seem to heed her advice. she bellows after us that we are savages not fit for marriage. She adds that we shall be the shame of the school and something else besides, but we are down the first flight of stairs, and her words cannot touch us." (11). This paragraph from chapter 1 really demonstrates the strict and negative manner of Mrs. Nightwing. She says negative stuff about her students, maybe simply to make her feel a little better about herself, and she picks on her most talented student, not in dance, but in magic. I want to find out, maybe later in the book, why the teacher is like this, and why her behavior is the way it is in the text.

In David Colbert's nonfiction biography book called "Benjamin Franklin", I think Benjamin Franklin had mostly finish missions successfully due to his father which influence him a lot. Benjamin was born in January, 6, 1705. He had a older brother named James, but they didn't really get along. He grew up having to help his father with their shop which was to make candles and soap. Benjamin did not have trouble having education, he had perfect grades. That's why his father want him to go to the Harvard school. Still, money was one problem. Benjamin went for only about one year and got his scholarship, but couldn't finish the rest. As Benjamin got older, he started having a whole ton of trouble. He had some fights with his brother James which caused them to be arrested and Benjamin also had trouble trying to make some money from starting a shop. He was even tricked by the governor of Pennsylvania which wasted his time. Still, he got a job later on in London since many people needed printer workers like him. He soon went back to America and started his own shop with a partner. He earned himself a good reputation everywhere he went. On page 9 (Pages Wrong), David wrote, "When he's eight, Ben's enrolled at the South Grammar School. His father wants him to go to Harvard. The plan is for Ben to become a clergyman." This text evidence shows the exception Benjamin's father wanted him to do and be. Benjamin had high exceptions from his father which push him to work harder and change his future. That's why I think Benjamin's father influenced him a lot. Benjamin went to Harvard because his father wanted him to and that got him some good education and a scholarship, that gave Benjamin a lot of experience that may have mostly help Benjamin in his future. Benjamin also got experience from working at his father's shop. All of this evidence proves to me that Benjamin's father influenced him the most and best.

Jack Brill | 41 comments In the non-fiction book "Fingerprints and Talking Bones" by Charlotte Foltz Jones. One thing that I would like to learn is who invented these ways of solving crimes like the way they do and how do they use some advanced technology to solve crimes. Another thing I would like to learn is what it is like to be training the K-9's and how they use other animals such as parrots and cats to help solve such crimes that are very difficult.

Sara | 17 comments In the non fiction book "Chew on this" by Eric Schlosser and Charles Wilson. A few things i did learn in this book were about the secrets in fast food and what's actually in it and how it can actually really mess up your insides and get you sick. Also two people got poisoned from a burger because the people who were making it put poison and they died from it. Another thing i learned was that once you eat fast food it stays inside of you and it becomes apart of your body unlike other food it doesn't but fast food like burgers, fries, and chicken nuggets become apart of you and thats why you can gain more weight because it's inside of you and stays there for quite awhile.

Trinity Burgos | 31 comments In the non-fiction book Rising voices writings of young native american teens, young native american teens express how they feel about their experiences in life being native american, also how it had somewhat affected there life. I think the writer of this text wrote this book because these young native american teens because from reading the text these teens really never got a chance to speak out about what they felt being native american, or just the way they were treated in general by other racises since they've wrote this book. The purpose was to speak out and try to make the other people understand what they go through and what is it like to be them. For example, struggling in poverty and sometimes even family issues. text states ''readers should have no trouble relating to the ideas presented here. Characterized by clear imagery and unaorned language these expressions of anger, regret, and hope...''. This quote shows that basically in the bookm these young native americans expressed their feelings in many different way and how they would want readers to make a great connection with the writers.
