I'm presently reading book of The Lilean Chronicles, Redemption. I'm 3 chapters in and it's quite good, really well polished. Would think that anyone who likes Dragonriders of Pern or Dune would also like this book. Pretty reasonable I think with the price at $1.00 for the Kindle edition. http://www.amazon.com/The-Lilean-Chro...
Here's a free chapter from Unburning Alexandria - just published sequel to The Plot to Save Socrates - http://www.sfsignal.com/archives/2013...
Does anyone know of a good way (other than Amazon categories, which are a bit hit-or-miss for me, both in terms of 'correctness' and given that they don't quite match my preferences) to discover new Indie sci-fi? I'm an author in the space as well, and through reading the various books high on Amazon's bestsellers, I've figured out that I'm pretty specific in my tastes (which I didn't think was true before!). I've also found the GR algorithm to not be perfect (or far from it), so I'm really hoping there's a good book discovery app / forum / website somewhere (something like WorldsWithoutEnd, maybe, but they don't do Indie...)
I too am a sci-fi author, though I think Peers of Beinan hits several genres (even historical fiction when you realize I'm writing medieval adventure -- just set on another planet so I can get more sociological in my story telling, looking at the bigger picture socially and politically).I'm finding GoodReads to really be one of the best places to discover sci-fi. Do a search for the groups; there are at least four dedicated to science fiction that I am a member of.
Hi Laurel,Thanks for this; I'm a member of a couple groups as well and have done some looking around there. I was looking to supplement my interactions there with a pure recommendations site as I've gotten a fair bit of spam from other authors when I look for recs here.
If anyone knows of such a site, would love to hear about it!

have you tried askdavid.com?
Will wrote: "I have not - exactly what I was looking for, thanks!"Since you write as well, may I suggest you submit your work to www.askdavid.com? The guy who runs it (from Germany, I believe) is VERY nice! When I updated my cover, he was very prompt in making the change for me. He does want some specifics from you if you submit to him; it's very different than most book recommendation sites. Private message me if you want me to send you some sample links in preparation for submitting your books to him.
