Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I broke my book buying ban (I did have a voucher to spend though so it had to be done) and bought these books from Amazon UK yesterday: Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh , The Name of the Star (Shades of London, #1) by Maureen Johnson , Cloud Atlas (Movie Tie-in Edition) by David Mitchell , Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn , Fire From Heaven by Mary Renault , Gallows Thief by Bernard Cornwell and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith .

I have been unsure whether to read Gone Girl but after reading some of the comments and opinions on here I decided I would give it a try.

message 3: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Judy, now I am scared. I hope you like it as much as me! I want you guys to love it. A wonderful cozy mystery recommended by someone who has never enjoyed any mysteries or series!

message 4: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60320 comments Don't worry, Chrissie. I've been wanting to read from this series for a long time.

message 5: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Janice, I do always get nervous when someone decides to follow my recommendations.

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4138 comments Bought Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins and won Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1) by Tahereh Mafi

message 7: by Denise (new)

Denise (drbetteridge) I saw a documentary about early British novels and got right on with acquiring them. They were all free on Kindle, which may be a good thing since most didn't have a very high rating here on GR. Pamela. Or, Virtue Rewarded, The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling, The Castle of Otranto, Evelina, and Caleb Williams. Hopefully something readable will come of it all.

message 8: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Chrissie Between Love and Honor is fantastic!

Maybe I too should pick up In This Hospitable Land. Is the Audible price reduced from 12 to 8 USD only today? I hate that when I do not know if I have to grab it right away. Is this a one day price, Shirley? I went ahead and bought. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Living in Belgium and loving France, it will be fun to read.

Kindle daily is just for one day ... don't know about whispersync audible reduced price. Sorry

I always grab and pay that day to be sure I get them into my library. Today was a banner day. I think they are promoting this more and more.

Janice (jamasc) | 60320 comments Great haul, Shirley. The Museum of Abandoned Secrets would be good pick for those looking for a "Z" author: Оксана Забужко (Oksana Zabuzhko).
