Girl meets dead boy, girl meets dead janitor, girl screams, girl gets sent to group home run by bad guys.
Girl meets almost-werewolf, witches, and demons, they escape from the bad guys. Girl and girl-witch get separated from almost-werewolf and boy-witch. They reunite and continue on the run but are captured by bad guys, find out they're part of an experiment to genetically alter dangerous paranormals. They take out the bad guys and escape in search of others like themselves.
In the midst of this, girl and werewolf fall in love and it's a beautiful thing.
Meanwhile, in Canada:
Girl with pawprint tattoo lives in company town with her family and friends. Life is pretty utopian, including girl's affinity with nature and animals. Girl has best friend and is pursued by the town ladies' man. Girl finds out that ladies' man also has pawprint tattoo and he tells her they're both shapeshifters. A forest fire strikes and sends the town's teenagers are evacuated. Ladies man's sister is left behind.
Girl and friends discover that they're part of an experiment, too. One to resurrect extinct paranormals. After a helicopter crash, they make their way back to civilization and are captured by bad guys. Ladies' man is taken captive, girl and her friends escape, with plans to find others like them - the ones that took down similar bad guys in New York.
