FYI, the original classic discussion has a lot of books that I would like to read someday. I am also open to something new. :D

I already commented on the other goodreads link that I'm up for anything in the classics. Other considerations are fine - except zombie, etc. and not really crazy about romance. Tiffany, if you didn't see it, I already took ownership of dragging my feet on Scarlet and then turned out to like it. Being so far behind=equals missed out on discussions, and that truly was my lose :(
I missed out on the discussions too. I read it by day 6....so being too far ahead=missed out too.
Has there been a decision? I loved reading the SP so thank you to whomever started, I am game for a new challenge:)
I'm game also. I'm not big on either scifi or romance and I won't do paranormal/zombie/vampire stuff but I'm game for almost anything else. And if the rest of you choose something that I don't want to read, I'll still be around for the next title.
I haven't read anything that is on the list of classics. However, we are not limited to just that list. I think we're just waiting for someone to suggest something.
Anyone who didn't like SP have a title they would like to read?

OK, going to throw a few suggestions out there. I'm not saying we have to pick from my suggestions, though.Would someone who's not a big sci-fi fan mind something like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea or Around the World in 80 Days?
I noticed Swiss Family Robinson and The Three Musketeers were on Jett's list. Also, Tom Sawyer and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court.
Is Little Women considered a classic?
I love both 20K Leagues and Around the World. And Little Women is definitely a classic. I'm game for anyone's fancy.
Why me? I have never read 20000 or Around the World. I do have Little Women on my to read again list.
So, it's either 20000 or Around the World :D That's as close to picking a book as you're getting from me

Jett, oh finder of the best kindle versions of books. Please locate a kindle version of 20000 leagues that it Jett approved :D
KK Thanks.
PS I guess I made a call on the book.

Jett, just asking. Did you, by chance look at http://www.amazon.com/000-Leagues-Und...#
It's annotated and has biographies of the author,
study questions, etc. Just wondering - you are the Master Book Picker Outer.
I have two other copies of it but will see whether either of them are unabridged before I start working with it. If not, I'll buy a new one, I suppose. And ok, I'll work up a reading schedule and report back. Do we want it to take approximately a month? It's roughly 450 pages and 47 chapters, but no one stuck with the schedule last time. I haven't looked at the breakdown of chapter lengths yet, but it would help to know if this is a monthlong thing or what.
edit: It looks like much of the difference between editions is the quality of the translator. I don't suppose we must all be reading the same one, but here are two less expensive editions that are the work of F.P.Walter who seems to have done one of the better translations.
1. ($0.99) http://www.amazon.com/Leagues-Unabrid...
2. ($1.99 and includes illustrations) http://www.amazon.com/Twenty-Thousand...
Both have active TOC.
The links Jett posted are by Bonner and Brunetti. Both are considered good, but they're more expensive copies.
I think to the end of this month would be good. That way we can read 2 or 3 chapters per day instead of just one chapter with SP.
OK, I'll work on that in between working on the octopus cake I have to make for grandson's first birthday on Saturday!
Cool! Another one I haven't read in 25 years +. And never in English, though I suppose the original is in French, isn't it...
Tiffany wrote: "Lol! I want an Octopus cake. How is that grandbaby in the oven doing?"he's doing great! He makes his mommy waddle already, and she's not quite 25 wks.
The layer cake which will serve as the base for Mr. Octopus is now in the oven, filled with juicy blueberries. When that's out I'll make the spherical cake with a strawberry cake.
We've already colored the fondant a purplish color to drape over the round cake and fashion eight arms. I also made some peach-colored suckers to put on an arm that I intend to flip over.
Denise, the second version that you suggested is the one that I had mentioned previously. Lenora says portions of the book are left out of that one. I have no clue how to verify that. I was struck by the annotations and author's biography.

Lenora wrote: "One of the reviews stated that, Monica."You know, I think that was one of those cases where the comments follow every title by that name around. In this case, it seems to be the complete unabridged work.

Excellent! :)
I don't know what any of this means. But I bought the one Jett mentioned, so I am assuming I am ok.
