Just downloaded! Short audio book so I should be finished by the weekend.

Almost finished listening to the audio book. Narrator is very good.

Just finished it. I thought the narrator did a great job.
I wish I could say the same for the story. It was good, but also a bit disappointing. With the title "Heir to the Jedi" I guess I was expecting more. It was a fun adventure, but I was expecting more that that.

PS- Am I the only one who would prefer that novels not be canon? I have always liked the idea that the books are stories that might have been, but are not necessarily canonical. Now that all new books are considered canon, makes me more critical of them. Maybe that is why I am somewhat disappointed by Heir to the Jedi. I wanted something better for an official, this-really-happened type of story.

Finished the book yesterday. It was a good read. Looking forward to the discussion on GOL.

Nathan I kind of agree with you. I like the idea that the books are cannon, however, like you, wish there was more to it than what this one offered. It was a nice little adventure but that's it. We know nothing more about Luke, the Jedi, the force, the rebellion than what we already knew before.

Apparently, the book (or a draft of the book, or something) had already been finished before the New Canon plans had been announced. They made some minor changes to the book and released it under the new canon. I think (or at least I hope) that we will see some better and more "important" stories once we get to the Journey to the Force Awakens titles and beyond.

Agreed. I liked that we got a little insight on Luke's perspective post- A New Hope, but the story was disappointing. it didn't advance his character, it didn't introduce any new ideas, it didn't impact what I already knew about Luke's story. I liked the new character of Nakiri (sp?) but of course she was made irrelevant by her demise.

See I think it did offer some unique insight into his journey. He had to explore the force in ways that would have been forbidden a generation earlier. Those scenes were my favorite. Especially the lightsaber.

Heir to Jedi questions and thoughts
Was I alone in thinking that the author did a good job capturing an immature Luke
Contrast between Luke and Lea Luke small town immature and Lea grown up in world of politics and intrigue
Did anyone else feel that Nakaris dad was overdone? Was this only in audio version?
Did you feel it was heavy handed having Luke put his dad on pedestal hoping he was a good guy
Even a wise Jedi doesn't understand women
Luke grieving over nakari and everyone else seemed forced

I thought the book was alright. Kind of obvious to me that Nakari wasn't going to make it because of Luke's relationship with Mara Jade. I really like Luke and Nakari's conversation about whether or not Vader was seduced by the darkside or did he choose to go to the darkside. What do you guys think? It was also great how Drusil was the one that gave Luke the different perspective on the Force and how it helped him to finally tap into it better.

Nicole, Agreed. There was no way in heck Nakari was going to live through this. No reason, other than, this seemed like a throw a way book with throw away characters. There's no way she and Luke were going to have any kind of relationship because, well, we know better.

I really liked Luke pulling from others for his understanding of the force. Especially when you think about Yoda saying "you must unlearn what you have learned." Our experience can cloud our view of the truth.

I liked it but didn't think it was great. To be fair, I haven't thought any of the new canon have been great or even really good. They have all been just OK with New Dawn being the best so far.

I understand some people's frustration with the fact that it didn't seem to have any affect on the larger SW universe but I think that has a lot to do with some of boundaries the author had to work within.

Hearne did a great job showing a young, wide-eyed Luke that still is trying to understand the Force. I liked that he acted like a 19-20 year old kid.

I'm probably alone in that I liked the first person point of view. If you haven't read a lot of 1st person it can throw you off some time.

I've heard some people say that the part about the song about Darth Vader and his prosthetic parts was horrible because DV is supposed to be this terrifying, mysterious figure. I thought it was funny. I think it is exactly what would be done under a sprawling, oppressive regime.

I also don't know that the song means everyone knew he was part machine as is being claimed. Some farce and straw man routines make outrageous claims. It could have been entirely a farce...but the truth of it is why Vader became so upset.
I also think the band name reaction is hilarious. Like Monty Python in our world makes sense. Lol
