On this rainy day in May, I couldn't pass up a chance to see Danielewski in town on his book tour. I adored the non-linear artistic format of his previous book, House of Leaves, so this new book has been somewhat on my radar. But I danced around the edges of convincing myself to read it. As another friend put it, it intimidates me. Readers say that it's a book that's hard to explain or talk about. And then I found out in tonight's book signing that this is the 1st 800-something-paged book in a 27-volume series. Yes; there are going to be 27-of these puppies and he's already written the first 10. He says that he's talks with his publisher about it like a television series with the first 5 books being like the first season of the series.

Honestly, I'm still a little scared ... but in a hopeful and excited sort of way. This is a series that really shouldn't be read as an ebook because it's a work of art.

I plan to tackle this first volume in September July, but I don't want to tackle it alone. A few weeks before I start it, I'll see who else is reading and hopefully direct them here for discussion. This should be interesting.

I'm 114 pages in. Xanther's story is the only one that's making any sort of sense so far. I think I can only handle a couple of chunks of this per night ... especially with all the nonsense sections. Perhaps I'll take a hint from my reading of House of Leave and just skim the nonsense sections?

Erin Fleming | 1 comments I'm on 327. I agree- I like Xanther's storyline. I liked the couple, Bobby & Cas. Some of the stories are hard to read, like Tian Li. I don't like the recurring one with Luther. Still trying to piece it all together somehow.
