Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil: A Savannah Story by John Berendt



This book has been sitting on my bookshelf at home for far too long, and I'm determined to get to it this year. And with "Good" and "Evil" in the title, it fits here perfectly. :)

I read this for week 19 a true story. I really enjoyed reading this book. I watched the movie after and while I enjoyed the movie I thought that the book was much better.

I gave this 3*. I was glad I read it as I was just in Savannah for the first time 3 months ago. The book was everywhere down there. Unfortunately, I did not go see the Mercer house. I think the author captured Savannah very well. It was an interesting story and I didn't even know it was based on a true story until I actually started listening to it on audio. I only gave it 3 stars as it just didn't wow me.

I love this book! I read it & watched the movie right before a trip to Savannah a few years ago & then bought a copy of the book for myself at the Mercer House. He really captures that hoodoo voodoo spirit that is engraved into Savannah. A lot of the tours in the area were mostly 'haunted' tours. I live in the South but Savannah is a completely different set of southern charm & Berendt seemed captivated by that.
I really wanted to the see the Bird Girl statue but it was moved from the cemetery to a museum that we didn't make it too. I love that in Savannah they call it, "The Book".

Love this book! Gave it 5 stars and recommend it all the time.
