Ok,so I have admit that I have already read most of this series. I love Daemon. Even though he super sexy, unfortunately he has the attitude of a bear. However, the relationship between him and Katy may start out rocky but.....! I don't want to spoil it!

I'm just saying that right now he sounds like a total asshat but as the relationship between him and Katy develop he becomes extremely protective. But given his family's circumstances you will understand why he is the way he is.
Honestly, on book 3, his over-protectiveness is still not justifiable to me. I don't know. If someone has finished at least book one please tell me you agree.
I'm about 40% in the ebook, and I'm disliking both Daemon and Katy. :( He's being a total dickhead and she's being a victim. Also, is anyone else noticing the similarities to Twilight (the Vampire Diaries, too, but mostly Twilight)? It feels like a Twilight rip-off to me.
Oh my God, yes! Not just Twilight. I can see TVD books all over it, with Katy being Elena from books 2 and 3 I think.
Thank f@ck someone else noticed! As for the similarities to TVD, the naming conventions are comparable (Damon/Daemon) but it really hit me the moment I read about (view spoiler). There might be other similarities that I'm missing because I've forgotten most of the plot. I strongly disliked that series.
Twilight though? If someone told me this was refurbished Twilight fanfic, I'd believe them.

hmm, i genuinely do not see twilight in this series at all.
buttermybooks wrote: "hmm, i genuinely do not see twilight in this series at all."No? I don't know about the entire series, I haven't read it, but this first book is the story of a girl who left a big, warm city to move to a small, overcast town. Like Bella in Twilight did.
She lives with one parent and she has to be the responsible one and do the house chores etc., because her mom keeps being distracted with other stuff. Like Bella did in Twilight with her own mother.
She keeps biting her lip.
She is plain but the most gorgeous guy with the most gorgeous and unique-colored eyes notices her and is rude to her at first. Like Edward Cullen did.
He tries to persuade her the strange things she's noticed around him and his sister are in her head. Like Edward Cullen did after he saved Bella in their school parking lot.
She's best friends with the guy's sister, who is stunningly beautiful and sweet and kind and knows all there is to know about dresses and make-up. Like Alice did in Twilight.
Daemon has a killer bod and he keeps walking around with no shirt on, like Jake did in Twilight, and at some point, Katy jokingly wonders whether or not Daemon owns a shirt. Same thing Edward wondered in Twilight about Jacob.
Daemon can move preternaturally fast, like Edward and Jacob did in Twilight.
Daemon keeps saving/rescuing Katy from certain death. Like Edward did with Bella.
There are bad guys who are after Daemon and his extended family and they will harm Katy to get to him, so that's why he's overprotective of her. He's also super territorial and creepy, and jealous of any other male approaching her.
Katy discovers what Daemon is while they're in the woods, the same way Bella did with Edward. She even went home and googled the info she'd learned, the same way Bella did. Only one googled vampires and the other mothmen and people of light.
Even Ash's bitchy behavior reminds me of Rosalie in Twilight.
And these are just off the top of my head, I'm not taking notes. To me it reads like a total Twilight rip-off. Even after taking into account all the YA clichés and tropes.
You forgot that Ash and Daemon dated, and remember who was supposed to be Edward's mate? Rosalie. :D
Lexie wrote: "You forgot that Ash and Daemon dated, and remember who was supposed to be Edward's mate? Rosalie. :D"HA! Yes!
I can honestly say that I have read both the twilight series and the lux series. The first book is very comparable to twilight however as the lux series goes further on you will start to see a definite difference between the two series. To me you have to read the entire series in order to be able to appreciate the author's train of thought in how she is seeing up the story line. I find the lux series extremely well written.
Jennifer wrote: "I can honestly say that I have read both the twilight series and the lux series. But I still see the similarity of Daemon to Edward with his overprotectiveness to the level where it's just sick. "Oh, he touched you, kitten (barf at the nickname), here let me kill him" basically.
And what's with Kat not telling anyone anything? I swear if she only talked to people about things that are happening half the trouble could be avoided.
Lexie wrote: ""Oh, he touched you, kitten (barf at the nickname), here let me kill him" basically."-_- I don't think I'll be continuing with the series. And I agree about the nickname. Also, that's the nickname Katy's father used, too, and it made the ick factor go through the roof.
sadly, I don't know if I'll be able to finish this book...I want so much to enjoy it and I've made it 7 chapters in and I'm just...not. the characters have almost continuously gotten on my nerves since about like page 5 and I just don't know if I can do it. does anyone know if it gets better/is worth finishing (you're not liking it)? character development? actual sane-ish decision making? anything? :/
Brittney wrote: "sadly, I don't know if I'll be able to finish this book...I want so much to enjoy it and I've made it 7 chapters in and I'm just...not. the characters have almost continuously gotten on my nerves s..."I struggled a lot with it too. It didn't get better for me and the characters got more irritating as the story progressed. Even though there isn't a cliffhanger per se, the ending is pretty open too, so it wasn't very satisfactory on that front either.
I definitely see all the similarities between this book and Twilight but I'm really trying to give this one a chance. I think Katy has a little more backbone than Bella too, which helps.I really can't decide how I feel about Daemon. And not in a very good way. Where I'm at in the book, he keeps being like, "I put a trace on you by accident so you literally can't leave my sight. But after it's gone, you need to GTFO." And he just KEEPS DOING IT. I hope that stops soon because he is really getting on my nerves with that crap.
Brittney wrote: "sadly, I don't know if I'll be able to finish this book...I want so much to enjoy it and I've made it 7 chapters in and I'm just...not. the characters have almost continuously gotten on my nerves s..."They were on my nerves as well from the beginning and it lasted until the end. The only good part for me was that she stood up to him a few times, It never lasted though.
Jennifer wrote: "I can honestly say that I have read both the twilight series and the lux series. Just something about him that makes me cringe. I do like the major story arch which spans multiple books, though. But the scientist part of me is concerned as to how Daemon's and Katy's relationship will work out.
Okay, so I finished it. I have to say that I liked it well enough that now I'm almost done with the prequel, Shadows, about Dawson and Bethany. I definitely like Dawson A LOT better than Daemon at this point and I kind of wish that the series was about him. But, at the same time, I liked it enough to continue the series! I'm definitely interested to see where things go from here.

Voting for the first book of the Paranormal club is open until June 1st which is when we will start reading! Please go vote if you haven't done so already.
