The Movie Adaptations

I'm glad you said you didn't particularly like them, because I'm on the same boat lol. I don't know if it's because I watched the movies about a day after I finished the book, or if it actually was a pretty disappointing adaptation. (probably both lol).
You are right -- they left so much out that would have explained a lot more about the characters (especially Hakan-- who is slowly becoming one of my favourites). One thing that irked me was the changing of the names from Eli to Abby and Oskar to Owen. It's small, but because Eli's name had such a significance, I would have preferred them to pick a name that also had a religious significance because it would have added more to the movie. And plus, what's wrong with the name Oskar/Oscar?!

I really enjoyed the Swedish adaptation, but I did see it well before the reading the book. I think it was a brilliant movie and captured dark side of humanity. The US version was a complete disappointment (saw before reading the book too) although Chloë Grace Moretz was fantastic. Looking back the Swedish one feels closer to the actual story and the US one was too afraid to go too dark. However now I've read the book I may have to rewatch the movie...the Swedish one..never the US one

I'm sure you all know by now that this novel has had two adaptations
Let The Right One In, a Swedish 2008 movie
&
Let Me In, a US 2010 movie.
I figured I'd open a thread to discus what we thought about them. =)
I watched them the other day, and I have to admit I was fairly disappointed with both, even though I prefer the Swedish one for its more eerie atmosphere.
They both left so much out and the US one didn't feel like a different adaptation of the book at all...just felt like a remake of the Swedish movie...maybe it was just meant as that.
What did you guys think about them?
