Vadigor | 19 comments I was in the process of fixing a series when I noticed that there exist two author records for the same author: Eric Liberge and Éric Liberge. I fixed the accent one one of the volumes in the series, going with the French Wikipedia's entry. However as it turns out, the pretentious bastard does indeed use "un accent aigu" on the first letter of his name.

What do I do now? Should I replace the more popular, accentless name with the correct one for all his works? Can I then delete the accentless author record? It's not so much a matter of pseudonyms as the current record is simply wrong.

Sandra | 31633 comments He publishes under both names Vadigor. I checked WorldCat and they have both.

At present in GR there are 10 works under Eric and only 6 with the accent. I also looked at the covers.

So I would AKA each of the profiles and leave it at that.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6347 comments In this case, which author profile should show the series?

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments Actually, I think there's a bug that allowed both profiles to exist. As far as the database is concerned both E and É are the same letter. I think the bug originates from profiles that were already dually in existence before that rule was put into place.

I come across this a lot when I'm fixing initials. Say I'm looking at the profile "A B Eric" and fix it to be "A.B. Eric" not knowing that the author's name is actually "A.B. Éric" and that a profile of that name already exists. The merge feature would automatically merge into "A.B. Éric" instead of creating a new "A.B. Eric" profile.

Looking through Worldcat, almost every French (the original langauge) edition is credited to Éric. The Dutch translations were credited to Eric but as you can see on this cover from the publisher, his name is properly accented on the cover.

Given that Goodreads treats accented and non-accented letters as the same letter - I don't think he warrants two profiles and I went a head and merged them.

Vadigor | 19 comments Thank you for your input and effort Vicky, it's very much appreciated. Also thank you Koenraad Kelemen for fixing up some other issues with the series.

Gareth Mottram (garethmottram) | 4 comments Dear Librarians

I am an independent author but my series of books is published under a variety of names (my incompetence I'm afraid - trying to fix it!) Anyway, could you please assign any of the current Jason Willow Books to my author profile - there are two books so far with e-book editions as well. Here are the ISBNs/ASINs:

Jason Willow (pback 3rd Edition)978-1781764589
Jason Willow (pback 4th Edition)978-0955747144
Jason Willow (kindle)B0041T4EAI
Jason Willow 2 (pback)978-1782990727
Jason Willow 2 (kindle)B00ANS38XU

Sorry for the hassle.

J.M. Reinbold | 7 comments Dear Librarians

It appears that I have two Goodreads Author profiles. I don't know how this happened. One appears as JM Reinbold (name correct), the other appears as J M Reinbold (this is the one I have been building/updating). Is it possible for you to merge the two profiles? If not, please use JM Reinbold as my author page, as it shows my most current publication, the anthology Zippered Flesh 2. Thank you very much for your time. And sorry for the inconvenience.

Here are the links to both profiles:

J.M., actually, as per Goodreads policies on spelling of author names, it should be J.M. Reinbold. I corrected/merged accordingly.

Mary Wallace (marywallace) | 3 comments Dear Wonderful Librarians:
My book is listed on Goodreads and I've had my goodreads account for a long time. Can you please do the space space thing to the other Mary Wallace's, neither of whom have goodreads accounts? Thank you!

It has already been done, probably when you claimed your profile. You are "Mary^^Wallace". The other Mary has had an author account on Goodreads since at least 2009. I think it is first come, first served.

Mary Wallace (marywallace) | 3 comments I thought my account was from 2008/2009... I'll research. Thank you so much!

I think it is first come, first served but I won't swear to it. If I'm wrong I'm certain someone will point it out.

There is one great disadvantage to having the single-space name and that is that you would most likely get every new book that people add to any of the Mary accounts. We are regularly asked to move books from the single-space profiles.

To change your account to single-space would require a staff member.
