After reading In A Sunburned Country, the book made me really want to travel to Australia. Granted, I've always had a small desire to visit there, but it got me to wondering if a travel narrative ever made you want to visit a country.

He says it in a funny way, though... His book A Walk in the Woods did make me want to hike the Appalachian Trail, though.
I figured he exaggerated a bit, but may be not to the less discovered parts that he went to :) What do you think of his writing? Have you read a lot of his books?
Admittedly, Wild by Cheryl Strayed made me want to run the other way and never hike the Pacific Crest Trail.

He reminds me of my dad. His audiobooks are good, too, but I've only liked the ones he reads himself.
I haven't tried his on audiobook yet, thanks for the suggestion. What's a travel title that you've seen recently that's grabbed your interest (Bill Bryson or not)? I saw one today called Getting Stoned with Savages: A Trip Through the Islands of Fiji and Vanuatuby J. Maarten Troost. Hadn't heard of this one before, but was definitely intrigued by the title. Fiji's been a place of interest for a while, so it will be interesting to see what it's like.
The book Wide-Open World: How Volunteering Around the Globe Changed One Family's Lives Forever sounds interesting. I'll have to read it and see if it sparks any travel desires.

It's a similar story about a stockbroker who's sick of his job and decides he'd rather make a difference with his life through little things. So, he treks across the U.S., Europe, India, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Canada then back to the Hollywood sign. To get to his destinations,he asks strangers for shelter, food, and gas. Again and again, he's won over by the generosity of humanity and finds ways to reward the unsuspecting good Samaritans.

A Thousand Hills to Heaven by Josh Ruxen really made me want to check out Rwanda, which really surprised me.
The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon was an excellent book, but it completely turned me off of ever visiting the Amazon. I'll stick to the documentaries where the bugs can't get you!
