Canadian Jen We do have the Niagara Winery not more than 45minutes from my home. I don't get out there enough but the times I do it makes me feel like I'm in a different country. My current favourite is a Pinot Noir from the Niagara region.
There would be nothing better than a book and wine festival!

message 3: by J (new)

J Jen--since I'm from buffalo I probably know the winery. Which one?

message 4: by Canadian Jen (new)

Canadian Jen Hi Jill! The Canery is the name of it ...have you tried any?

message 5: by J (new)

J No I haven't but I've heard of it! We're close to Niagara-on-the-Lake and the Bench and love the Bench wineries in particular.

Melodie I don't know where everyone is located, but North Carolina is a hot bed of boutique wineries with some seriously tasty wines.I believe currently there are 100 in the state. My personal local favorite is Laurel Gray located close to me in the Yadkin Valley region, nestled in the western foothills of NC. Their Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon are beauteous!

Irene | 297 comments I just spent Sunday afternoon with about 25 ladies from my church visiting some of the wineries in my town. I live on the PA side of the line along Lake Erie and we have a number of wineries within a few miles of my house. We are most known for our sweet wines, not my preference. Unfortunately, I don't drive and PA liquor laws are so restrictive, nothing alcoholic can be shipped to a private residence, only a State Store.

The other day I had an excellent California red wine Gorden Kolbe winery, that I can't find in the local stores. Anyone hear of it?

Cathrine ☯️ Never heard of that one Irene. I live in the Central Coast area of California and am surrounded by wineries. Then north to Napa and south to Santa Barbara are more and more. I will keep a look out for it.

Seriously, a church group that goes wine tasting. Out here that would turn into a mega church, haha.

Canadian Jen I just found a new wine that is most awesome - had some issues with 2 of the bottles and they since shipped me 5!! WOOHOO. It's called Sandbanks winery on Lake Ontario - haven't been yet but will be going. It is Mouton Noir: A full-bodied rustic red charmer with exciting flavours of coffee & raspberry, with spicy notes & layers of toasty oak. Aged in local oak barrels. Yum.

message 10: by Melodie (new)

Melodie I'll be checking that out! Big bold reds are my personal favorite.

Cathrine ☯️ I was hoping to get up there this fall Jenn but it's not happening. So I am focusing on next fall for Stratford. But I'm taking wine notes!!!

Hey, Cathrine - if you make it to Stratford we need to meet!!! That's only about an hour away from me.

My favorite wines are Cakebread Cellars (Sauvignon Blanc & Merlot) and the Prisoner. I also like a good Malbec occasionally.

I'm always looking to try new wines.

A couple of years ago I took my first trip to Napa with my sister to celebrate my 45th birthday. It was spectacular! We went to 16 wineries (mostly tours) in 4 days. Let's just say we only made it to dinner one night, lol. I'm not a big fan of Chardonnay but we visited Alpha Omega and they had a wonderful Chardonnay.

We also experienced a few family owned wineries and my favorite was Reynolds Family. They have a wine named Persistence (a red blend) that I fell in love with.

Looking forward to getting more recommendations from you all and sharing our "vine" experiences!!

Nice - I would have been pretty tanked me thinks! I will tell you, I find the red wine to be pretty tough on the tummy. This Mouton Noir is actually the first one that's not and for that I am grateful :)

message 20: by Irene (new)

Irene | 297 comments I never heard of Prisoner. Another I will have to look for. I do enjoy a crisp Chardonnay in the summer.

Cathrine ☯️ This past weekend I visited Sculpterra Winery for some tasting and then a local Songwriters At Play music gig in the gardens. Giant sculptures throughout, the sleeping cat was one of my favorites and we really liked their Statuesque blend of 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Syrah, & 28% Petite Sirah. A lovely afternoon.

Every year my cousins and I go go to Long Island and stop off at a few of the Vineyards out there. My favorite place is Pindar. I end up getting at least a case of wine.

Being snowed in has me drinking a lot of wine!! That's the only thing I like about snow! Winter Storm Jonas dumped 20 inches on us!

I'm enjoying a nice red blend. Happy Sunday!

Irene | 297 comments I just tried a new chardonnay from Australia Cellars Row. It was a Chairman's Choice (discounted selection) the last time I was at the State Store. I thought it was very good.
