Sam (theliteraryhooker) I'm already looking though my books for ones that will fit. Too bad there's still a whole week before this actually gets going!

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Here's an example of the tracking, scoring, 10 tasks etc in this post

Sometimes "seeing it" is better than me trying to explain it lol.

Cathie (catitude) | 38 comments Hi everyone :-).

Still trying to figure everything out. I've never heard of "The Turnip"?

message 19: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Cathie I hadn't either. I'd looked up some in Wikipedia to get the synopsis so I could hash out some task ideas. I have an ancient copy of Grimm's tales and I just opened it up and saw that one and it was unique enough and flexible enough that I could work with it.

I read it as the Enormous Turnip when I was a kid and was one of my favourites that and the Bremen Town Musicians Band and Snow White and Rose Red.

Okay. I have a couple of books picked out that will give us points.
Let me know if I got it wrong.

Mini Challenge - The Other Slipper by Kenechi Udogu (there is a clock on the mantle)
PP - 25
FTR - 50
TNB - 0
AI - 0
MCP - 20

Task - Beastly by Alex Flinn (the white rose)
PP - 25
FTR - 50
TNB - 50
AI - 0

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments When we have a new challenge like this launched it takes the questions in order to work the kinks out and find any holes.

In order to keep things simplified I'm going to change the ruling on re-tellings, modern tales, etc.

IF IT'S BEEN SHELVED AT LEAST 5 TIMES AS A RE-TELLING OR FAIRY TALE IT'LL COUNT TOWARDS THE FTR BONUS.

IF IT'S ON A FAIRY TALE LISTOPIA I'LL TAKE IT

SO THIS WILL MAKE ROMEO& JULIET AND WIZARD OF OZ COUNT SINCE THEY'VE BEEN SHELVED MULTIPLE TIMES.

And I'm not shouting that just making it visible :)

I have the problem of being clueless when it comes to spreadsheets.

Me, too. I might be able to get my husband to do a spreadsheet for us, but I'm hoping one of our teammates has this valuable knowledge. Anyone?

message 29: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyhelen) | 386 comments I can do spreadsheets, so I don't mind doing it if no-one else wants to? If anyone wants to give me a hand though, that would be great.

message 30: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) I am happy to help to track the books and points and if you have an idiots guide to the spreadsheet I will try.

I might try and find that anthology! I like the sound of it :)

I can co-captain, but I'm semi-new to this type of game and I'm worried I may not have everything straight lol

message 32: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyhelen) | 386 comments Grace and Jacki, if you like, I can get the spreadsheet organised and then both of you could help out keeping it up to date? I am in the UK so my timezone is different to quite a few players so it is always good to share with people from the US as I'm often asleep when things are happening!

message 33: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) NancyHelen I am in the UK too :) I am happy to try. I can gather info in tracking posts if that helps.

message 34: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyhelen) | 386 comments That would be fab, Grace! I'm just setting the spreadsheet up now.

message 35: by Lanelle, Production Chief (new)

Lanelle | 21418 comments Mod
Jacki, I think all of us are semi-new here. I know that I don't have everything straight :) I'm still trying to figure out the Author's Initials thingy.

message 36: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyhelen) | 386 comments OK everyone, I have set the spreadsheet up here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Hopefully all of my formulas will work automatically! That's the plan anyway, but the proof will be in the using of it. I'll keep it updated, but do keep an eye on it in case I miss anything.

When you post your books up, if you could let me know the page numbers as I have set the spreadsheet up to automatically add the appropriate points when I plug in how many pages the book has. It saves us having to go back and check the points each time and probably makes it easier to post your books.

If you can think of anything else that will improve the spreadsheet, let me know...

Hey, everyone. I'm patting myself on the back. I convinced my IRL book club to read Beauty by Robin McKinley for our next meeting on the 25th. I just checked. It will get points for Author's Initials!

message 38: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) NancyHelen I requested access to the spreadsheet.

Lanelle I just check the initials against that list which is very useful. I have a couple more that work for the task and all bonus points but not the mini.

Beauty by Nancy Ohlin short at 175 pgs

White as Snow by Tanith Lee 320 pgs

message 39: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyhelen) | 386 comments I've just granted you access, Grace.

message 40: by Grace (new)

I had that one lined up for another challenge but haven't started it yet. Definitely going to hold off until this starts up, and reap all the bonus points! :P

message 42: by Grace (last edited Jun 11, 2015 03:07PM) (new)

Grace (Calcat) Another one with good points Snow (Once upon a Time) by Tracy Lynn this is the same book but has less obvious white on cover, just snowflakes but shows all the right shelves. Snow A Retelling of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs by Tracy Lynn

Although it says 3 in series, they seem to be just connected by the fairytale theme, they are stand alone stories.

message 43: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Another (non-fairy tale) one: The Devil in the White City Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America by Erik Larson

It'll fit the task, plus gets AI and TNB points, and 35 PP points.

I'm trying to find some options from different genres and so far that seems like one of the best non-fairy tale ones I've found!

I'm in the US!! Just requested access to spreadsheet!

message 45: by Theo (new)

Theo | 1929 comments NancyHelen, I've requested access to the spreadsheet. I'm not around much this week because I'm frantically memorizing Italian for a light opera I'm singing in the weekend, but I'm willing to help out as needed once life gets back to normal when the challenge starts.

message 46: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyhelen) | 386 comments Jacki and Theo, I have given you both edit access as well.

I think the easiest for everyone will be to post your books here in this thread and one or two of us can then update the spreadsheet. But if everyone keeps an eye on it, just to make sure that nothing gets missed, then we should all be good.

Really looking forward to getting started!
