the danherous liasons. not soppy, sappy, cheesy at all. it's epistolary and it also turned into a movie if you are ticking two categories per book.
I ticked this category with Talking it Over by Julian Barnes. Also the sequel Love etc. Both about a love triangle, but first one I found more enjoyable to read.
She Came to Stay by Simone de Beauvoir qualifies for this category (the book is 'inspired' by a similar situation in her relationship with Sartre). I have not read far into it yet, as far as I can tell and regarding the synopsis, it's definitely not soppy. It's Simone de Beauvoir writing down her frustration, anger and hurt, after all. But then again I'm not sure I will finish it. I haven't really enjoyed the read so far, but other people might.

Possibly something where the love triangle is subtle icing rather than sticky gooey main course...?
(Can't really count Jane Eyre can I?)
