The title is pretty self-explanatory. When you find yourself adrift and in search of a new book, what are your guiding criteria?

Ernest Solar | 7 comments That is a really good question. I'll be honest, I think books find me. Sometimes they literally fall of bookshelves and hit me in the head or they appear from thin air. And therefore, they must be read if they "magically" appeared to me. At the same time I have a large collection of books. I'll see one I want to read, but know I don't have time, so I buy it because I know one day I'll have the time.

Books fall on your head? Was it the library squirrels?

Todd Sullivan Mostly common things: word of mouth either through a friend or an online discussion group, or if it's suggested to me through a previous purchase/read, or if it's mentioned on one of my social media accounts.

The last book I read by an author I'd never heard of previously, "Who Fears Death" by Nedi Okorafor, was a result of an article I read about scifi and fantasy books with mainly non-white characters by mainly non-white authors. I bought two books because of that article, though one I haven't started yet. 'WFD', however, was excellent. I highly recommend it.

Ernest Solar | 7 comments Hey Todd .. do you remember the name of the article you found that book? I'd be interested in using that for my undergraduate/graduate reading class in the Spring.

Here's article title and author: 'I read only non-white authors for 12 months. What I learned surprised me' - Sunili Govinnage

Fantastic. Thanks for sharing! I've already sent a couple samples to my kindle for further investigation.
