Juanita (juanitav) | 744 comments Happy Friday, fellow readers! How are your books treating you this week?

I finished Hope: A Memoir of Survival by Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus this week for "a book that scares me." And it did.

I am now tackling China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan, the sequel to Crazy Rich Asians. This will be my book published this year. And I'm very excited that my hold request for All the Light We Cannot See came up today so I'll start that one in the coming days for my book with 500+ pages.

I am now at 38/52 with 14 prompts to go.

How was your week? And have you seen Jurassic World yet?

Belinda (belindalt) | 99 comments I am almost done with Safekeeping unfortunately my reading has slowed down in the last couple months. I am waiting to get The Normal Heart (play) and Annihilation(trilogy) in the mail to read next week. They are both under 200 pages so they should be fairly quick reads!

I'm behind on the challenge only finished 21/52 but I am still hopeful to catch up and complete the challenge.

WyoLady 93 (wyolady93) I finished my book "that made me cry." Or just got me teary eyed. I confess any book I have read by either Danielle Steel or Lavyrle Spencer can evoke that sentimental/teary feeling (both authors of which I have read here and there). I'm a sucker for a good love story or a tear jerker once in a while (LOL). So picked up The House The House by Danielle Steel by Danielle Steeland got that feeling." :)

message 4: by Nicole (new)

Nicole This week I read The Bag Lady Papers by Alexandra Penney. Prompt= a book with bad reviews. I agree with the bad reviews. I've gotten a lot of reading done this week. And I saw Jurassic World!!

message 5: by Sara (new)

Sara Last night I finished The Boys in the Boat which was really good! I highly recommend the audio with Edward Hermann as narrator! I also read Ballet Shoes but I don't think I will use it for any prompts. I am in the middle of Things That Matter by Charles Krauthammer which I am enjoying. And I am halfway through The Kite Runner which I am not... :)

Megan (mghrt06) | 547 comments I’ve finished 21 challenges so far.

I didn’t make much progress since the last check in because of a couple reasons. One, a book that I’ve been waiting for came in the library and I requested it before I knew I was doing this challenge. Go figure, I can’t fit it in to any one of the 50 challenge places. But I still really wanted to read it so I’m finishing that up tonight.

My next roadblock is waiting for some of the other books to come through the library so that I can carry on! I have a handful that I’m on the waiting list for and I bet they all come in at once which always happens.

This will probably be a good time to check off “Book owned but not read yet” while I wait (im)patiently for the rest to become available. :)

Good Job to all participating. I’m having a lot of fun so far!

message 7: by Lüdi (new)

Lüdi This week I finished The Name of the Wind for a book recommended by a friend and The Scarlet Letter for a classic romance. The Name of the Wind was pretty good and The Scarlet Letter was okay-ish. I'm currently reading Gentlemen and Players for a mystery/thriller.

Katherine (kiik) | 158 comments I finally finished a book for the first time in weeks! I think I'm still a book behind, but I feel better knowing I've made some progress.

So this week I completed Death & Co: Modern Classic Cocktails, with More than 500 Recipes (book a friend recommended), and I'm about halfway through another book. I graduate next weekend, and my family's coming into town, so I have a feeling I won't get too much reading done while they're here, but we'll see.

I have not seen Jarassic World yet, but it looks awesome!

message 9: by Ray (new)

Ray Jordan (rjordan1041) I've started "Shogun" a few days ago for my "book published the year you were born" prompt. It may take me a couple weeks since it over 1100 pages.

message 10: by Beth (new)

Beth Last week I finished Sharp Objects for the "popular author's first book" prompt. This brings me to 25 books completed for the year.

I am currently reading I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban which I should be able to finish this week. I also hope to finish Who Fears Death this week. I was hoping to have 28 books finished by the end of June, but with only a week and a half left I'm not sure I will make it.

I haven't seen Jurassic World yet, but I hope to soon. I have heard mixed reviews, but I like Chris Pratt and dinosaurs so I am hoping for the best :)

message 11: by Cate (new)

Cate (catelam) | 56 comments This week I finished The Casual Vacancy. This was my 'book with bad reviews' as it was the one on my to read list with the lowest rating, so I wasn't really looking forward to reading it, but I actually really liked it!

message 12: by Julia (new)

Julia (_mj_howard) | 57 comments I've now finished 44 of the 52 books as I've been off sick from work for several weeks now and had some extra reading time.
So my recently finished books are:

✔️3) A book that became a movie: The Water Diviner by Andrew Anastasios, Meaghan Wilson-Anastasios
✔️32) A trilogy: Maddaddam Trilogy ✔️Oryx and Crake ✔️The Year of the Flood✔️MaddAddam by Margaret Atwood
✔️40) A graphic novel: The Compleat Moonshadow by J.M. DeMatteis, Jon J. Muth

not many more now.

I was born the same year & read the same book! Now I want to check out the mini-series!

message 14: by Lara Ruark (new)

Lara Ruark I'm not so much hitting a road block as I've hit the "big books" that I have been putting off. I started Doctor Sleep (The Shining, #2) by Stephen King but it scared me so much that I'm taking it slowly. (Guess what category that book is in?)

I tend to read 2 books at once and switch around, one on my kindle & one paper/hardback so I am just starting The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon this week.

Happy reading!!

message 15: by Juanita (new)

Juanita (juanitav) | 744 comments I remember the Shogun miniseries. My mom was/is a huge Richard Chamberlin fan.

Woo hoo! That's a successful week in my book!

message 17: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 65 comments I finished two books this week. Very Valentine by Adriana Trigiani for my book by an author with your initials. It was cute, but forgettable, with an unresolved ending because it is the first of a trilogy. The second book was Bittersweet by Miranda Beverly-Whittemore, which was my book club's pick. I'm not sure where I'm going to put it - maybe a book with bad reviews (3.45 on goodreads). I liked it, but the characters were pretty dysfunctional and unlikeable as a whole. Not a favorite of the club.
I'm at 32/52 - yay!
