Welcome to Historical Romance (The Book Club)! Please feel free to introduce yourself, share some bits about yourself and your favorite HR novels/authors!

message 2: by Tracy T. (new)

Tracy T. (tracy_t) Hello, my name is Tracy, from Jacksonville, FL. I am a huge audible Whispersync listener. I love HR book. Some of my favorite authors are Elizabeth Hoyt, Maya, Rodale, Sabrina Jeffries, Tessa Dare and Delilah Marvelle, plus a bunch of others. Not a fan of really really old HR romance authors, like Georgette Heyer, anymore they seem to have way too much angst until the very end of the book, like the last five pages and that's annoying to me.

I prefer strong female characters, not the simpering whiny type.

Looking forward to this book group read.
Thanks
Tracy

Tracy T. (tracy_t) Hi Rachel, Looks like we are neighbors, LOL. Ahh Historical romance novels are so enjoyable. There are so many good ones.
Welcome to the group.
Tracy

message 4: by Kim (new)

Kim (kanncar) Hi, my name is Kim. I'm in The Raleigh, NC area. HR has been my favorite genre for 25 years. I go through stages when I read Victorian HR and then spend two months reading medieval HR.
Traci, I too prefer strong femal heroine, but don't like when that's the theme of the story. I look forward to reading with everyone.

Kim

Historical Romance Lurver (historicalromanclurver) | 101 comments A warm welcome to the Ton of the Book Club group. I would like to extend a special thank you to Kat, who without her hard work in getting this new group and creative naming wouldn't have come to life.

I live and breathe historical romance novels and period drama films so feel free to ask for any info on either topics. Also if anyone struggles to find the books on the polls, I have an extensive eBook library that i am happy to help with (just message me).

Looking forward to our adventures and tea party chats together.
Xx

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 303 comments Hi ladies, Lisa from Sydney Australia. I've been reading,, Historical Romance since I first discovered bodice rippers in the 80's but now much prefer the current writers such as Elizabeth Hoyt, Lisa Kleypas, Tessa Dare and Sarah Maclean.

And I also love BBC historical dramas such as Poldark, North and South etc

message 7: by Andrea AKA Catsos Person (last edited Jun 27, 2015 01:03AM) (new)

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1635 comments Howdy,

I live in Washington, DC USA, though I was born/grew up in western NY, 2 hours from Canadian border (snow country!).

I love HR, particularly "oldies" from the 70s and 80s--and not always politically correct though (bodice rippers).

I also read HER and M/M Romance as well. Oh, I also love the classics as well.

I'm just thrilled that our first book will be Medieval. I feel this period gets neglected by the more modern HR writers that are popular or maybe maybe there isn't a demand for it among the larger HR readership?

I forgot to mention, I JUST LOVE eBOOKs!!!! Except I prefer to read 70s & 80s HR in dead tree format.

message 8: by Daniella (new)

Daniella | 23 comments Hi everyone! I'm Daniella from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. I love strong, stubborn heroines. I also have a soft spot for scarred and disfigured heroes (very Beauty and the Beast, yes). My favourite authors are Lisa Kleypas, Amanda Quick, Veronica Wolff and Monica McCarty.

Nice to meet you all :)

message 9: by Giaghazal (new)

message 12: by Diana (new)

Diana | 2 comments Hi my name is Diana and I've been looking for some new books to read. I'm from Chicago, IL and love reading historical romance, regency romance, medieval and old westerns. I prefer a time way back when as opposed to the contemporary novels. I'm looking forward to recommendations and getting to know you all.

Sarah Brocious | 11 comments Hello! Sarah Brocious...I love any kind of romance, but escaping into historical is always fun!!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone! :)

message 15: by Trish (new)

Trish R. Hey, I'm Trish from Jacksonville, Fl., and I Like to read just about any kind of love story but I'm partial to historical. I think time travel is my favorite, though. My favorite authors are Tessa Dare, Sabrina Jeffreys, Lorraine Heath, and so many others. I'm very picky about what I read. Since I live in the real world I read to get out of it so I don't want my heroine to be real. Don't want her to be too plump, too thin, too plain, too anything, unless it's too beautiful.

Hi Trish! If you're a fan of time travel romance, I suggest you try Constance O'Day-Flannery's books (especially Timeless Passion). She's amazing! Her heroines are usually very beautiful too. :)

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1635 comments Trish, I feel exactly as you do about a heroine's looks.

I like my heroine's to be beautiful. A heroine who resembles the general population of people that you find in RL is NOT the escape from reality that I want my read of an HR to be.

She got me hooked on the genre too. :)

Veronica Wolff has an amazing time travel highlander romance series, by the way.

Never heard of her but I will definitely have a look. I'm always looking for a new author.

OK, well I'm an idiot. She has 4 time travel books and a novella and I've read them all. It was back at the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012. Geez, here I thought I'd found a new author.

Hi, Debbie! Same!!! Even though I also enjoy other genres, Romance is my favorite. I know *some* people who roll their eyes when they ask what I'm reading and it's romance.

Honeyee | 3 comments Yo everyone!

My name is Joyce and I am quite new to Goodreads. I am a graduate student taking up Economics and reading novels is what I do to get away when there's just too much econ stuff on my mind.

I love reading romance particularly historicals because its what got me into reading as a teen.

My favorite historical authors are Elizabeth Hoyt, Jennifer Ashley, Lisa Kleypas, Judith McNaught and Julia Quinn to name a few. I'm welcome to suggestions if you know of any other historical romance authors that I should read. :)

Great to know another veteran of HR :) Looking forward to hearing from you!

We're currently in our second group read for Medieval Month:
The Red Wolf's Prize by Regan Walker by Regan Walker - so there's time to get involved if you'd like.

Voting is up for next month's Regency Month in August - so please feel free to cast your vote. LOL, last month we tied and had to flip a coin, so all votes are appreciated.

message 41: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 23 comments Hi, I'm Leslie from south Georgia. I am so happy I found your group. I have belonged to another online book club for a while and we voted on books to read and had discussions about them. The last 3 months or so the group changed and they started reading the "proper" books that everyone else seems to be reading and frowned upon romance. I like to read some chic lit but romance is my main genre. I love Regency, mail order brides, and time travel books.

I'm Sara, and I'm happy to have found this group! I love historical romance, but I'm terrible about finding the time to read as much as I'd like to. A few of my favorite authors are Julia Quinn, Tessa Dare, and Julie Garwood, but I'd love to discover new ones too. I'm looking forward to diving in! :-)

Historical Romance Lurver (historicalromanclurver) | 101 comments Welcome to "The Ton" Sara.

That's 3 of my favourite authors too!
You've arrived just in time to join us for Tessa Dare's latest (if you've not already read it - lol).
