Meagan | 10 comments I love Sarah J Maas so much for writing a girl character that has a "friend with benefits". That rarely or never happens in books!! It's refreshing and relatable.
I love Fae<3 Sarah's Fae seem so regal and elegant and that's my favorite thing about Fae!! Tamlin & Lucien are extremely intriguing! The whole curse/mask thing is really cool, can't wait to find out more about that!!
Feyre is such a pretty name first of all lol :)
She seems to be another girl character that I am going to just adore!!! Like Caelena! Feyre is rough & tough and I can't wait to see where the plot goes and takes her!
I am waiting for something soon to come up with that tiny snippet we got of Lucien & Tamlin talking about asking her, Feyre, about finding something. The reason Andras went past the wall? Something with getting rid of their curse maybe? I don't know but I am liking where this story is going already.
The beauty & the beast aspect is highlighted lovely so far too!

Marianne | 1 comments I started ACOTAR yesterday, and I found this group today and I was so happy when I noticed that you were reading ACOTAR this month :D I'm at page 68 and I really, really, really like it so far!

Kristin (k_w_oswalt) | 2 comments Whew! The first 50 pages of this were really tough for me. I'm having a hard time getting invested. I'm not certain I really understand the world. It look me 3 days to get to page 50 and I was feeling a slump coming on. Now that I've made it to chapter 6, things are starting to pick up a bit and I hope I'll be able to make it through the book at a more reasonable pace now. To be honest, I'm not really loving Feyre.

I love the description of the palace too! It sounds so whimsical and beautiful! Definitely wasn't insta love, it was like a slow burn romance which was refreshing.
I agree on the Katniss similarity thing. She fed her family just how Katniss did, bow and arrow and all, and when she was being amen away the comment that Issac can show them how to hunt and make snares... I think Sarah J Maas has too much creativity to do something like that, but it was just a little thing I disliked too..

Raul (latinlector) | 16 comments Just started today! So far I'm liking the world. I'm hoping for more development as I keep reading and I'm glad it sounds like it's going to be more than just romance with the "sickness" that was brought up at the end of chapter 7. Let's see where this goes ;)

It's so lovely to see so much discussion in the boards already!

I just started reading today as well. So far, I'm loving any of the Beauty and the Beast elements (as that is my favorite fairy tale).

I'm wondering why Tamlin spared her?! It seems counter-intuitive. And he's already telling her some important info, which is weird for an un-trusting Fae. But I'm interested to learn more about the sickness. I like the masks as a twist on the curse from Beauty and the Beast.

Also, I already love Lucien. He's a sass machine.

Not sure about my feelings on Feyre yet.

One of my pet peeves popped up. When she was describing herself, she described basically a perfect face (straight nose that scrunches when she laughs, upturned eyes, high cheekbones, etc). I always get annoyed when a character is picking apart their body and it's the exact Western beauty standard.

So far I've found it fast paced enough for me. Now that we are finally at the castle, I'm interested to see where the plot goes.

Wendy (faerybookish) I am just loving this so far.

The world building is very vivid and I just find myself sinking into this book as I read. There's plenty of questions I want answered, and the pace is quite satisfying.

I love how she's incorporating Beauty and the Beast (my all time favourite).

I'm enjoying the suggestions that the treaty and the wall are not exactly what the humans believe, or are not there for the reasons the humans believe.

I agree that characters who claim to think they are plain who are obviously conventionally beautiful is way way overdone. I think Feyre is interesting, but I always wish for a less jaded heroine, it's like to make a girl "strong" she has to be guarded, suspicious, cynical, etc...

Okay! So far I like this a lot! It is a little info dumpy at times about the world... Instead of exploring it with feyre we are told about it. I also didn't like that some things just seem to convenient or I'll explained at the moment.

I always have a gripe when things are too "convenient" in books. For example, when she is just put in a sleep part way through the journey and then wakes up at the end of the trip..... Why not just put her in the sleep from the beginning of the journey!? And further more, why is he keeping her alive in the first place!? Is he desperate for some reason!?

I am very intrigued about the disease/illness that is going around. The fact that it can effect both fae and human is intriguing!

I hope that the pacing and the writing continue at the level, because I am finding it a very relaxing fantasy read to follow along with!

Allyson Shelton (allysontuggle) Finally started reading this. It took me a minute to get into. The first couple chapters are not for me. I'm wondering the same thing about why he is sparing her. What kind of 'loophole' is that. She murdered one of their kind so, I just don't understand the point of keeping her 'safe'. The world seems so big and confusing. Hopefully all this will be explained. I now understand the Beauty and the Beast thing though. I don't care for it but whatever.

I'm into it now so....

Here's to the rest of the book!

I'm not 100% sure on how I feel at this point, which is okay because it's the beginning of the story but I too wonder why he spared her, and I expected him to be really 'alpha male' and kind of, well...angry I guess. I expected him to have this kind of tough exterior, much like the beast in Beauty and the Beast, and at the moment he actually seems quite kind - in a weird paranormal/fantasy way of course.

Interested to see how it develops!

Agata (agatareads) | 8 comments I'm angry at myself for thinking this as I'm always so frustrated when any YA series is compared to The Hunger Games BUT The Hunger Games vibes are strong. Feyre going out hunting to help her sisters, a pretty much in-active parent, the poverty, the archery. Not that I mind it's just being playing in my mind.

I'm struggling to see why Tamlin would take her as a prisoner to live a life of LUXARY and take care of her family if she just comes with him. How is that a punishment? It seems a pretty good deal for someone who killed his friend(?).

I am very intrigued by the fae and their power over the humans. And of course the disease (if Tamlin wears a mask for the whole book I think I might cry). But I think it'll be interesting to see this superior realm struggle with a disease that is even beyond their power, never mind the inferior humans who will be slaves to the disease if (once) it hits them.
