What our your first impressions of our July 2015 book selection?

Kandice | 944 comments I actually listened to Alexie read this aloud and even though his voice is not the ideal narrative voice, I think it lent quite a bit to the story. He has a slight nasally whine that really went with the character. I hope someone else listens as well to see if they agree.

I am going to be reading to this one instead of listening, but now I am intrigued. Maybe I can find some audio excerpts online to see what you mean.

Kandice | 944 comments Even if all you hear are excerpts, I think it will be worth searching them out. His voice is just so "mood making" in this case. Let me know what you think if you do. ;)

Whew! This one is a fast read - on my hour lunch break I read 85 pages!

Kandice - the book has illustrations based on the narrator's artistic interests. Some of them advance the story (view spoiler) How did the handle this with audio?

Kandice | 944 comments They don't mention drawings at all and I have actually never picked up the physical book so didn't know there were illustrations.

Just like I peaked your interest in the audio, you peaked mine in the book!

Oh yeah, almost every other page has a drawing/cartoon. It is another thing that made the first 85 pages go so fast!

Justin (rockstarintraining) Just starting this one. The cartoons definitely add some extra humor into the book. This should be another fun YA read. The drawing of the main character made me laugh, but I kind of felt bad at the same time. Poor guy.

I liked how this one grabbed me right away. I think YA like this is my favorite type of YA.

Justin (rockstarintraining) Yeah, I definitely agree. YA told from the narrator's point of view with lots of humor is the best.

And . . . not quite as much pining for that unattainable love interest . . .

Justin (rockstarintraining) *cough* John Green *cough*

Kandice | 944 comments Not ALL John Green is like that!

I think I told you guys I audio-ed this and had no idea there were little illustrations. I downloaded the ebook with the intention of looking at them and still haven't, so thanks for the reminder!
