I'll nominate The Skylark of Space by Doc Smith by E.E. "Doc" Smith. I'll probably cringe all the way through, but such pulp is part of the important beginnings of the genre.
I like the sound of all the nominations this month, quite an eclectic mix. I'm going to add to it by nominating Planetoid 127 by Edgar Wallace - only 62 pages. For anyone who likes a longer read, it's also available in this compilation FIVE SCIENCE FICTION NOVELS AND NOVELETTES. PLANETOID 127; THE GREEN RUST; 1925; THE BLACK GRIPPE; THE SODIUM LINES; WIRELESS By Rudyard Kipling although not all come from the 1920's.
