BTW if anyone has not picked up this book yet, Books-a-Million and B&N both have it in their bargain section for $6
So, I really couldn't get into this book. I'm going to trust you all and go ahead and read The Thirteenth Tale but I had to DNF this one.
Please don't be discouraged. I always like to give my honest opinion but we all have different tastes. Don't let my opinion hold you back. We will sometimes all love a book and sometimes all hate a book but I would assume we will more than likely be split on most reads.
To me that is the fun of a book club. Branching out into things you wouldn't normally pick up yourself, sharing it with others. Plus who's to say someone else's opinion of the book won't make me pick it up and try again.
I liked it O.K., but I don't think I'm sure how it was called a ghost story. To me it seemed more allegorical - let your memories, both good and bad, have their place in your life and your thoughts. Avoiding feelings, for William Bellman, made a successful business but an empty life. Very sad story to me, especially how his relationship with Dora was concerned.
That's how it was for me when I first tried to read it...just couldn't get into it. But this last time, I didn't have that problem and really enjoyed it. Maybe it's the kind of book that you have to be in a certain mood to read. Either way, I'm interested in what the author will write next.
