Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments It’s not easy being life’s own personal joke, but Josette Landry has made an unstable peace with the beast. Life will continue to throw every bad thing it has at her, and she will continue to not put her head in an oven. But that’s okay. That which doesn’t kill her will just require a few hours of mental insanity. Completely down on her luck, Josette takes a job with a local paranormal group trying to get their own cable show as a photographer and camerawoman. Yeah, they’re even crazier than she is. The only paranormal thing she believes in is the miracle that keeps her rusted out hoopty running. But when her group accidentally releases something truly evil into the world, they are forced to call in reinforcement.

From the moment Josette meets Cadegan, she knows something about him isn’t quite right. And it’s not just because she can’t even begin to pronounce his last name: Maboddimun. Mysterious and armed with lethal sarcasm, he seems a lot older than his apparent age…

Centuries ago, Cadegan sold his soul for vengeance against the betrayer who cursed him. Forced against his will to do good, he hates everything in life. All he wants is a way out. But for the damned there is only eternal suffering. And yet there is something about Josette that intrigues him as much as it irritates and frustrates him. Something he can’t seem to fight, and the last time he felt this way about a woman, it cost him his soul.

He knows he has to stay away from her, but the evil her friends unleashed is hellbent on consuming her soul. Something he cannot allow. If one more innocent is taken, he will be sent back to an unimaginable prison that makes his current hell look like paradise. But how can he keep her safe when his being with her is the greatest threat of all?

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Some general questions to help incite discussion. Feel free to answer as many as you'd like.

•Did you enjoy the book? Why? Why not?

•Did you feel that the book fulfilled your expectations? Were you disappointed?

•What did you think of the characters? Could you relate to them or no?
- Who were your favorite characters?
- Who were your least favorite characters?

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Liked some parts of this one and was scratching my head on others. But for sure I enjoyed the extra info on Thorn and seeing Kessar finally coming back with his revenge from many books ago. Glad he didn't just slither off into non-existence.

What didn't fulfill my expectations was Jo. I know so many other readers don't read the stories for the love interest. And normally I don't either. But I really enjoy SK's worlds and characters for the most part and can at least like something about her characters. But with Jo as many more than know by now. I was not feeling her all that much.

I mean she was the most uber know it all, shun the "weirdos" type character ever. I get there are some real people that don't believe in the paranormal or supernatural and that is cool, I'm kinda one of them at times. But dude, with stuff like that, you have to be just as sensitive about it as if you are talking to someone else about politics and religion. And she was uber self important about it and really dissing her family.

I know some folks say others can't talk about their family but them. But in this case I believe even Jo SHOULDN'T have been talking about her family the way she was doing. As she definitely has no clue about HALF of the things that have gone down in her family. And in general just being all ignorant, to Selena that was being nice enough to help her find a job of all things.

The Dev sisters and the dragons for sure. Oh and Thorn of course and Ash. :) The hero wasn't too bad either.

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments LOL, I agree that Jo got pretty abrasive. I personally liked a lot of her extreme sarcasm, but that's just me. And I can easily see how many fans wouldn't like her.

Not making excuses for her, but I can't help but wonder how much of her attitude was influenced by her father's side of the family ... 'cause I can't say that I exactly got a warm, fuzzy feeling from her Uncle Jacob when we met him in Dream Warrior.

Now Talfryn and Ioan (the birds) ... those two were absolutely hilarious. XD

Shari-amor | 5275 comments I loved the birds!!!! Friggin hilarious. That scene when they go nuts after Cade goes demon
"Heeeeeelp. Get me out of here."
oh my god! I pictured them freaking out in their cages

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh snap, I forgot about the birds, lol. Yea they were awesome.

And wait we met more of the Dev family in Dream Warrior? Gah, I totally glazed over a lot with that book.

message 7: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new) - rated it 3 stars

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Lol so did I cause I don't remember a Uncle Jacob. The only humans I remember from that book were the ones that worked in the garage with Jericho.

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Same here, lol. This is why I love Charlotte, she catches things we miss for sure.

message 9: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new) - rated it 4 stars

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Awww, thanks! =)

Yeah, Jo's Uncle Jacob owns the garage where Jericho worked--Landry's Garage. He was the boss that confronted Jericho after the visit from Delphine and Phobos, and he wanted to know if Jericho was in any legal trouble.

If I remember correctly, Jo once worked there for about two hours, or something like that. XD

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments No kidding? Huh.

And actually why I repeat there is something up with that Dev family. They are always having something otherworldly going on with them or having a brush with it in some form or fashion.

Shari-amor | 5275 comments HA! I was close enough. I figured someone in there was a relation.

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Good call Shari. Shows how little I was discerning about the mechanic peeps haha.

message 13: by Myst (new) - rated it 3 stars

Myst | 734 comments Is it just me or did we never learn what the Devereaux girl's mom's name until SoNo?

Josette thinks about "Aunt Rocky" and all 9 of her "whackedout, freakfest daughters". Pg 26 of the HC. I cannot find a Rocky, Roxanne etc. in my name list, and it's not on the family tree that I made either. The father's name is Tom which came out of either Amanda or Tab's book.

message 14: by Slick (new)

Slick | 456 comments I hope we will one day get to properly meet all the Deverouxs :)

I believe you are correct on that Myst. Cause for all that has gone down about the family. The sisters and now the cousin and that bit of family has made the spotlight just a bit. But for the actual parents not so much.

I agree and hope so as well. Be one hell of a family reunion to say the least. Maybe even find out that their parents are descendants of some Gods or something somewhere too.

message 17: by Myst (new) - rated it 3 stars

Myst | 734 comments Just got to the part where their bodies get switched and she accidentally racks him/herself, is feeling itchy due to the body hair on his body and general hilarity. Meanwhile he's all covering her/his chest and getting pms cramps.

The humor of this scene is amazing.

message 18: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (last edited Jul 07, 2015 07:17PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments And yet utterly ridiculous all at the same time. I thought I was reading something wrong with that scene. Cause I know Amanda and Kyrian had a similarish sitch when they first hooked up sexually. But it was true whole body switch for Jo and Cadegan.

message 19: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new) - rated it 3 stars

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Man that switch was so random and offputting. It did produce some laughs but I felt like it was out of place. When the birds hit on Cade in Jo's body was definitely amusing.

message 20: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I have to admit SK does know how to write some good secondary characters for sure.

Yeah, I thought that scene was pretty funny, too, Myst. XD
