Nominations are now open for the July/August Group Read. You may nominate a book between now and July 10th. Voting will start the 11th and will run through the 13th. Once a winner is decided, threads for the group reads will be posted.

Once again we need to post the general rules for Group Reads nominations:

First and foremost: If your nomination wins, you will be the discussion moderator. I REPEAT. You will be the discussion moderator. Please do not nominate a book unless you're willing to do this. If a book you've nominated in the past won and you did not participate in the discussion, we will NOT consider your nominations in the future. Sorry to be hardcore on this, but it's happened twice now within the last year.

2) One (1) nomination only per person. Please read this next sentence carefully: Neither self-nominations by authors nor nominations by their respective publishers or publicist will be accepted.

3) Do not cheat or manipulate results. It is not acceptable to create fake accounts to nominate books or vote in polls and it is not acceptable to invite people to the site for the sole purpose of nominating a book or voting for a book in a poll. It is not acceptable to ask for votes or influence the poll in any way. If the moderators feel that a group read poll has been manipulated, the book in question will be disqualified. If the moderators feel that the user(s) are fake accounts, these will be reported to Goodreads for further review.

4) Please do not repeat an author we have read in the last year. For the sake of expediency, here's the list or you can just look back through July of last year going forward, and you'll know which authors NOT to include.

5) For your nomination please include Title, Author and Link (Use the "add book/author" link at the top of the comment box).

6) Since we are an international group, please check to make sure the book is readily available in more than one format. The last thing we want is to nominate a book that no one can get.

7) Finally, a word about series - Please consider whether the book you are nominating would be best read by someone who has read all the previous books in the series, or if it can be enjoyed by someone new to the series too.

Ron (ronb626) | 3418 comments Death in Breslau: An Eberhard Mock Investigation by Marek Krajewski.

Another little known series. This one set in Breslay(Warsaw, Poland) in the 1920's. When Hitler was in power in that corner of the world and Nazism reigns. Eberhard Mock is a Criminal Councilor, apparently, what amounts to a homicide detective. Of, maybe, simply a detective.

Marek Krajewski is also a little known crime novelist, but, is more well known in Poland. Danusia Stok is the translator.

We did Nesbo last August, but since this is for the 07/15 to 08/15 range, I'm going to allow this one.

One of my favorite dark mystery novels and series, for that matter.

My review at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Now available in paperback as well as e-book

You need not have read the previous novels featuring Penn Cage. I have just read the most recent novel The Bone Tree by Greg Iles which is a follow-up to Natchez Burning. Iles is one of the best writers of our generation in any genre.

The Final Silence

Hello- First time participating and would love to nominate this Irish author; having read The Twelve (The Ghosts of Belfast) I think his latest novel would be ideal. I was surprised not to find him on the previously nominated list, so I'm thrilled to throw his name in the hat. Thank you!

Carol Raynor | 6 comments I would like to nominate A Silent Tide by William E. Johnson. "A Silent Tide" is about murder, corruption and drug smuggling on the Chesapeake Bay. So real you can smell the ocean and feel you are actually there. You will not be able to put it down once you start. First place winner in the 2014 National INDIE awards. Available in all reading formats. Highly recommended.

The Heretic by C.L. McMahon The Heretic

Gus Deacon was once a company man. It didn't work out. Between the lies, the double-dealing and the collapse of the Soviet Bloc, the CIA just didn't feel like home anymore. So he found himself living in self-imposed exile in Europe, working as a freelance underworld operative. Selling his deadly skills to the highest bidder just seemed like a good career move. And for a while it was. Until somehow, it all went wrong, and now Europe's most dangerous man wants him dead.

But Gus Deacon finds himself presented with a death-row reprieve. One more job to make amends: retrieve a package of stolen goods. For a man with his skills and contacts, it sounds easy. Maybe too easy. But before the bullets even start flying, Gus Deacon starts to get the uneasy feeling that nothing about this job is quite what it seems. A ruthless arms dealer. A mysterious stranger. Echoes of a past that won't stay dead. And a package that holds the key not only to Gus Deacon's freedom, but the fortunes of millions ...

The Heretic is a fast-paced action thriller. Right from its opening passages, The Heretic tightens its grip until mounting tension explodes in the sound and fury of action, as the dance of deceit draws Deacon ever closer to a shattering conclusion.
