Valley of the Dolls
question
Barely disguised non-fiction?
The only character I remember folks saying was based on a real character was Neely O-Hara, who was supposed to be Judy Garland. As for the other two main characters, they seemed more like composites of other people, or if they were based on specific people I have no clue who they were.

From what I remember in the bio of J. S. Anne was her mother, Rose. Jennifer, Carole Lombard, and Neely was Judy Garland. MM would have been too young for Susann to use her as a model.
I read this book years ago when I had no knowledge of drugs at all. I was confused initially but enjoyed the book. Some celebrated Hollywood character I was also not familiar at that time. I have not read any other book of this writer since than. I have not seen the movie of this book. I may have to read this book again some day
