Teenage Book Lovers :P discussion

Hi I'm looking for a book I have only skimmed through it but here is what I remember:

There is a kid and his mom and I think this part was a flashback the mom sends the kid through an open house window to steal a statue of some sort and she waits at the car and drinks his slushy and he brings back the statue.???!?!!

Please help!

Umm he was like a little kid like maybe six and he says he was happy to steal it for her because he felt useful and helpful? And I am super unsure about this but the statue he stole might have been shaped like a cat???? Um what else it was like an office with a desk that he took it from and he got the slushy at the convenient store

This doesn't ring a bell with anything I've read. How long has it been since you read it?

A year or two? I might have even read a sample online :(
I thought it sounded like a curse workers book but I can't seem to find that part in any of them.
