i love this thread too! although Matthew..i'm not sure how this is exciting or happy news!? lolToday an old friend called me and we ended up talking for a good hour or so..and it seriously made my day because i really had been thinking about her lately but we had a falling out a while ago..so it was nice to reconnect!
Ok here's one. Anyone who has been involved will Performing Arts with understand. I have an upcoming project for my Acting class. It's a scene performance my partner is amazing! We're doing a scene from Oleanna, and its so powerful. I can't wait to perform! The class is just an intro class and most of the students have no idea what they are doing, and then there is me. I've been doing theatre for 6 years. lol. Don't get me wrong, they're all great people, its just so great to be working with someone like my scene partner!
great idea Jamie...I had asked my boss for a week off a while ago and he said yes which I was excited about but tried not to be too excited in case anything changed....well today he put of the schedule and I got what I wanted...I'm planning to go see my friends in Portland (and Powells) and have plenty of time to sit at home and read uninterrupted...I'm so excited
I like that you made a positive thread since we all rant so much.Let's see...good thing that happened...I got an A on my history book review. It's rather ironic because my history professors tell me that I'm a good writer and give me an A on my essays, but my English professors say I'm not a good writer and give me a B.
Oh and...the Yankees won last night (yay) and I took the night off for me and read, while listening to the game.
I WON ANOTHER BOOK! Free books are always a exciting thing. This was another Good Reads giveaway. My third I have won!

I am so happy! So several months ago I bought tickets to see Wicked when it came the the Capitol Theatre here in Salt Lake. I've been wanting to see it since I was 15. I found out about a month ago that my final choir concert is the SAME night as my tickets were for. And I can't miss the concert obviously. I've been trying to trade them, anything. But tickets sold out in less than three hours so there was no possiblity of trading them. Well I was browsing the classifieds and found an add for 4 Wicked tickets (exactly what I needed) I called the guy and we're trading tickets! The tickets I'm getting are Opening Night in a Box Seat! And I'm only having to pay a little extra for them. I am so excited!! :D
Kimberly, sounds like you're gonna have a lot of fun! Good for you!And... Yay!!! Today I did a seminar and my professor really appreciated. A bunch of students came to say me "Congrats"!
And I'm excited: tomorrow I'll start a new routine; hopefully I'll be able to maintain this time :)
I got called back for a really cool scholarship program at my school. Next year will be the first year for it and the participants will basically be the President's posse and get to go to social events and such. Plus it's $5,000 which would be just about what I need to stay away from loans for my senior year. So it's not a definite yet but I'm really happy. And last night in creative writing I got an A+ on my story (which is really something coming from this professor) and he invited me to submit it to the literary journal. (I didn't even think it was that amazing. haha)
This is awesome ladies (and gents)... As for my good news, I got accepted in the Graduate school I applied to. I'll be getting my Masters in journalism and moving to NY in the fall!
Yay! Everyone has such good news. It's nice to read that!I have good news too!! SNOW DAY!!! Well I had to go to my two morning classes but they (finally) closed the campus at 12:30. I can't believe we had to go this morning, we had like a full on blizzard! It was crazy!! But that's ok! Then I went sledding with a couple of my friends! It was so fun!!
This is a great idea! I'm trying to think of good news... but I'm drawing a blank. Oh I know! My Science Writing prof told us that instead of writing two papers, we would be making the one we're working on right now be our final but just a little longer! (We got our friend who is an auditor and meets with the prof separately to convince her to do this) :)So now I don't have to scramble to write it.
yay everyone..such good news!!
Anastasia: I might be moving to NY in the fall too!! we could hang out! :)
Janet: I'm jealous..I mean..I hate cold weather but I'd take snow if it could get me out of work!! Bring on the blizzard!!
ugh i wish i had good news..i just had a rotten day..but i'm really trying to be more positive..so i'm going to make myself think of something good..oohh..i had lunch with my best friend today!! that made me happy because we have both been so busy..so it was nice to catch up!

I have a few good newses. 1. It's Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. My roommate went home for the weekend yesterday and won't be back until Monday. (Unfortunately I already made plans to go home tonight, but still...)
3. I'm throwing a dinner party for my favorite professor and I feel so good inside because last year when some friends and I threw one, he was SO happy.
Lori, at least you won't be in the constant fear of wondering what the hell she is doing while you're gone. So yay!And YAY DINNER PARTIES! I love those! I hope you all have a great time.
And I'm going home today! My brother is the "monkey leader" in my old high school's production of The Wizard of Oz. I saw pictures, it's gonna be crazy awesome.
today i had such a bad day at work..again..and my boyfriend came over to hang out with me and brought me flowers... :)
it made my whole day better!
it made my whole day better!
Jamie- YES! we should definitely hang out! let me know how your plans come along as you make them. and your bf is such a gentleman!
I've had an awesome day today, was scheduled for a dentist appt but when I got there 10 minutes late they had already started on another patient (pretty sure it was an emergency thing) anyway that left my day completely free. Cleaned my room went for a walk made creamy chicken lasagna for dinner and have been reading for the past 3 hours.
I am way jealous Anna. That sounds like a really great day!Sorry, though...I have the BEST news..MY BOYFRIEND GOT A JOB!!!!!!! Oh my gosh I am so freaking excited. It's like a real job at a law firm. When they called they said they really liked him and want to fast track him to a higher position. And now he is talking seriously about going to law school at some point. It's very exciting!! AND... a little while ago, he said his first big purchase once he gets a good job is going to be a ring. Hehe YAY! I am just so excited about it all!!
yayyy Janet!!! I'm so glad that he finally got a job!! that is sooo exciting..I know that it has been a stress on your relationship sometimes..so I'm glad to hear that everything is working out!! :)
Yay Janet!! That's so exciting! I know he's been looking for a job forever and it looks like it finally paid off! =)
I go country swing dancing every Wednesday with a few of my friends. There is this guy there, his name is Larry. We call him Larry the Wheelchair guy because he's mostly paralyzed from the waist down. He's also has a slight mental disorder. I think he must have been in an accident because it sounds like he lived a normal life until a few year ago. Anyway, he asks me to dance every week, he's able to stand long enough to "dance". He ALWAYS makes a girl feel good about herself. He's always just so happy that a girl said yes to him. And he calls all of us "BDOGS" "Beautiful Daughters of God" he's such a sweetheart, you can't help but feel better about yourself when someone tells you that. (even if you weren't the religious type, it’s still a sweet comment) Anyway, its one those things that just makes you happy, thought I'd share!
Jamie and Janet--yay for both of you! Your significant others both sound like gentlemen. Kimberly, that's very sweet, and it's also good of you to say yes, because some people can be so discriminatory to the disabled. My good news is I turned 21 yesterday! I'm in Englan so it's not the same as it would be in hte states, BUT my boyfriend and I went horseback riding on Dartmoor (and today we're both really sore) and went out to dinner. Plus, he gave me a beautiful freshwater pearl necklace! *sigh*
happy belated birthday liz!! that sounds like an awesome birthday date with your boyfriend though! :)
Thanks Jamie, it was really fun, although we were both kind of nervous about the horses. Mine was pretty agreeable, but on a few occasions his decided to be really stubborn and not to move, so the guide would have to come and lead her to get her to walk again. Although I felt bad, I couldn't help but find it really funny.
I got another A in my American Lit class.. but it's bittersweet... see, I don't pay much attention in there at all. I talk to my friends and read the school newspaper mostly. And I didn't study to well for this test. And for the question "Discuss the protagonist/antagonist in Sherwood Anderson's 'Mother.'" the only thing I knew was that it was from Winesburg, Ohio.
I literally wrote (word for word): "The son is the antagonist in "Mother" from Winesburg, Ohio and the mother is the protagonist. Throughout the story, the son is trying to get the mother to do something she doesn't want to do and he is forcing her into a state of conflict." ..... yeah.. and I got all 4 points. In a way it's funny, but my classmates who know about it are kinda pissed. Several of them did badly and they actually read all the stuff!!
Liz, I know what you mean--I turned 21 when I was studying abroad in London and it was the most anticlimactic birthday EVER. But I did go to Ireland that weekend so it was all good (St. Patrick's Day was the Tuesday after so people were already celebrating haha).
Because I feel like making lemonade...It looks like my roommate might move out! Or at least she's gone right now! I really like having the house to myself...
I'm so happy that I can finally blow my nose! It's been days of being ridiculously stopped up. So, basically, I'm on the mend. And I found an apartment for next year! I signed the lease yesterday. Next week, I'm going to make an appointment to see the exact one that I'll get in August. I can't wait to decorate!
very exciting Lori! I'm afraid I might be getting sick there has been a horrible flu and cold going around for the past few months, I thought I had escaped but now I'm not so sure...The sun is out though which makes everything better. Also tomorrow day is the last day I work before taking a week off.
I love everyone's good news! It's just so nice to read!! Last night my college did Relay for Life. Incase you don't know, it's a fund raiser for cancer research and it's motto is "Cancer never sleeps." so what we do is walk around the gym all night. Most of us have teams and you have to have atleast one team member walking at all times. So our team took hour long shifts! It was so fun except I had to walk from like 12-1, 3-4, and 5-6. That 5-6 shift was a little rough. Haha. Anyway the good news is is that we raised over $35,000 for cancer research!!!! WOO HOO! It's very exciting!!! Just thought I would pass on that good news!
I did Relay for Life too! My family had a team three years in a row. We were the top fundraisers for our area. :) Congrats on how much you guys raised, thats great!
Tahleen, itwasn' thte most anticlimatic birthday ever--I didn't drink lots, but my boyfriend and I indulgedon cocktails.Janet, relay for life is always fun! Unfortunately, I've never been able to stay for the etnirety of one.
That is so awesome about how much money you raised! I've never done it before, but that sounds like a great cause!
Janet, congratulations on raising that much money for a good cause, I've never done Relay for Life but I know of some people putting together a team that I might join. As for my good news...I have a whole week off. I even lied to work and said I was going to be out of town for the whole time so they won't call me in.
I found the most charming used bookstore on Telegraph. It was OCD's nightmare: a narrow little shop lined with bookshelves crammed from floor to ceiling with books and books -- on their sides, forced into the tiny spaces left between the tops of books and the next shelf up, barely organized into sections. Strange section labels, too, and I'm talking about the plastic kinds made with the old-school label makers in Courier New font. They had your typical FICTION, POETRY, HISTORY, and so on, but also POKER, RATS... ETC (whatever that means), and AGENTS OF OPPRESSION. The shop-owner was adorably disheveled behind coke-bottle glasses that made his eyes look huge (he reminded me a little of Harry Potter's Trelawney). I think it worried him when I whipped out my notebook and started jotting down my thoughts about the place, copying some of the more interesting genre labels, but when I explained it was because I liked the labels, he gave me one they hadn't found the space for: ...'FUNNY'... It's now proudly displayed on the cover of my notebook. : ) As disorganized as it was, with enough time, I managed to dig out some real GEMS from the place. I got an annotated Nabokov, Eco's Six Walks In The Fictional Woods, and a volume of Proust's essays on art and literature!! YAAAY!!! I wont have time to read them for weeks! I am broke again! Oh, well! Three books for $15 is good enough for me!!
My roommate and I were just on a pleasure-walk to while away the afternoon (and eat at one of our favorite Korean restaurants, which is pretty far, so we don't go often). We also stopped by a newly-opened art gallery and dropped into a nail saloon for manicures. It was the second manicure of my life; I don't really do this stuff. I felt so girly and pampered. ^^;
Then we went to an anti-slavery workshop on campus, which was so, so good. Did you know that slavery still exists in the US? (notforsale.org if you care about this kind of stuff)
And that was just my SATURDAY!
Basically, I had an awesome weekend. I hope everyone else did, too. : )
That sounds great Nools! We have a used/new/rare book store in the city that I love. You walk in and just stop for a second, it is a HUGE store! You walk in and the first thing you see is the main floor, which is mostly organized. One section is taken by the coffee shop (even though I don't drink coffee, having a coffee shop is a must for a proper book store). Then you look up a little and you realize that there is a balcony that goes all the way around the main room, the walls are lined with bookselves stuffed with books. You go up the stairs and realize that its even bigger, the shelves just go on forever. And there is the basement, which is so big that it actually extends under the other builings next door. Over all its a 40,000 square foot bookstore. A bibliophile's dream. Google "Sam Wellers Bookstore pictures" and you can see what it looks like.Anyway, I really digressed from the topic.... lol.
Wow, Kimberly! : ) The largest bookstores I've been to are the Barnes and Nobles and Borders in LA, and whereas they sell books and are therefore exciting, they don't feel special. They all have the same feel, that commercialized format and floor-plan (maybe I am making this up?). They just don't feel very personal. The biggest non-chain bookstore I've been to is probably Moe's, and even with four stories of books, I don't think it can quite compete with Sam Weller's. ^^;I do like towering, labyrinthine libraries you can just get lost in, but my favorite bookstores (at least the ones I've frequented in Berkeley) have been the tiny, ones with used books where you wonder how they're even still in business -- the ones with the musty smell of old, wrinkly pages; always stocked with an incomplete, ratty collection of pre-1950 encyclopedias; often with a store cat who prowls around the haphazard stacks of books like she owns the place. I like them because you have to look a little to find something good, and there are always surprises. Book-searching becomes like a treasure hunt. I sound like a five-year-old.
This is goodreads! Bookstores are exciting things that make me jump for joy! It's all relevant in my view. Thanks for sharing! I'll be sure to visit that one if I'm ever in Salt Lake City. : )
