-Favorite books, either fiction or non-fiction

etc.

Hi,

I'm Emily and I'm an archaeologist for a cultural resource management firm. I got interested in learning more about archaeology and the past by reconstructing Utzi's straw cape and face in my 8th grade science class. Also, by being a huge nerd (I was a costumed civil war reenacter). Some of my favorite books:

-Kon Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl: a couple of dudes build a raft to see if they could sail from Peru to Polynesia as the prehistoric Polynesians may have done. Its awesome.
-The Wordy Shipmates by Sarah Vowell: a humorous account of the Puritans.
-The Red Tent by Anita Diaman: fictionalized recounting of Dinah, a barely mentioned figure in the Book of Genesis.

So many good books out there!

Heather (creaturefromthesea) | 1 comments I'm Heather and I'm an archaeology student. I wish to specialize in archaeological chemistry when I go to graduate school in two years. I hope to get my Ph.D. and will be the first person in living memory plus the first woman to do so. Needless to say, any advice from any of my fellow archaeologists would be much appreciated since I have little to no information and nobody who has mentored just yet.
I got into archaeology when I was in first grade and read a book on ancient mysteries for a book report; I can recall being especially interested in the Moai of Easter Island.
I love any historical fiction by Philippa Gregory; her works have definitely inspired me to read actual history books.
I am so excited I found a group that talks about archaeology!
